Two injured in helicopter crash at Carson City Airport

UPDATE: 2:26PM: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At approximately 1:51, a small helicopter crashed along the north taxiway at the airport. Two minor injuries were sustained: both transported to Renown. The airport was shut down briefly but is open now.

UPDATE: A helicopter that crashed Saturday afternoon at the Carson City Airport involved two people who suffered minor injuries. A fire that happened after the helicopter crashed sparked a fire which was quickly knocked down, according to dispatch. Both pilot and passenger were being taken by ground ambulance to the hospital.

A helicopter crashed this afternoon at the Carson City Airport and emergency crews are responding. There are reports of a fire and injuries. The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. on the airport runway.
The crash happened at the east end of the runway and involves a private helicopter. A Carson City sheriff's official on scene has asked dispatch to have airport officials close the runways.
The helicopter is on its side and there is a small fuel leak. There was a fire and it was extinguished. Two occupants were reported to be out of the helicopter with minor injuries. One of the two suffered an injury to his head area but appeared to be OK.
