NNDA's Business Edge to examine economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada
Professional teams provide a needed source of entertainment and community pride, but what is the economic impact of a professional team? How far does the impact extend through Northern Nevada and into the Sierra region? How do professional teams contribute to and support the community?
Score the answers at this month's The Business Edge featuring Doug Raftery, General Manager of Reno 1868 FC, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Casino Fandango, 3800 South Carson Street in Carson City.
Raftery was announced as the Reno 1868 FC General Manager, Business Operations on April 15, 2019. He focuses on building soccer at Greater Nevada Field and works with the coaching staff to field a team that is affiliated with Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes. Prior to being promoted to the position, Raftery first came to Reno in November of 2016, where he started as the Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships for the Reno Aces and Reno 1868 FC.
Most recently, he was the Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for both clubs. Raftery has a background as a soccer player and coach. He attended Hood College in Frederick, MD and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts, Broadcasting in 2012. Raftery played for the Division III Hood College Blazers from 2008-11. In Reno, he is on the Board of the Reno-Tahoe Young Professionals Network as the Professional Development Chair.
