Nevada State Legislature's 80th session begins with a welcoming Carson City snowfall
On Monday, the 80th session of the Nevada State Legislature began with a welcoming snowfall, which is expected to continue until Tuesday morning.
This session marks the first time in U.S. history that state has elected a female-majority legislature after Rochelle Thuy Nguyen and Beatrice Angela Duran were appointed to two open seats in Las Vegas, bringing the total seats held by women to 33 out of 63.
On Monday, the Nevada State Assembly met for its first session of 2019 in the Assembly Chamber of the Legislative Building at 11 a.m., followed by the Senate Floor Session in the Senate Chamber at noon.
During the Assembly’s Opening Ceremony, the Carson City High School NJROTC Color Guard presented the flags for the pledge of allegiance and the singing of the national anthem.
The national anthem was sung by Ashton Whitley, followed by a beautiful rendition of Home Means Nevada on the Assembly floor.
All other scheduled meetings for the first day were cancelled for opening ceremonies, according to the calendar.
