Senators Use Second Half Spark, Beat Mustangs 59-53
With WinterFest in full swing for Carson High School, the Senators made sure to keep the good vibes rolling Friday night as CHS took on the Damonte Ranch Mustangs at home.
From the tipoff, the friction between the two teams was apparent as the first half showcased a tough, physical matchup with both teams fighting hard to score from the perimeter and free throw line.
JayDen DeJoseph and Tez Allen made their presence known during the 2nd quarter. The two carved the defense inside, brought down strong rebounds and set up their teammates Brandon Gagnon and Dawson Lamb for easy buckets.
Damonte also held their own as guards Jordan Aguilar and Drew Damboise combined with forward Nyaabila Apambire to provide an impressive scoring punch from the Mustangs leaving the Senators with a five point deficit heading into halftime.
The second half turned quickly into Carson's favor, as they took advantage of turnovers by Damonte and converted the mistakes into easy layups on the other end. DeJoseph and Allen kept a major hold of the game for Carson, as the Senators trailed by only two points heading into the fourth quarter.
After a tight back and forth battle, the Senators broke free with the lead after a steal and coast to coast finish by Allen, giving Carson a comfortable lead with just four minutes remaining. The Senators ultimately took care of business with a 59-53 victory. Tez Allen and Jayden DeJoseph each scored 20 points on efficient shooting, ending in a crucial victory for the Senators.
