Carson City man arrested for meth possession on his way to courthouse
A 48-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of Walker and Fairview drives Thursday afternoon on the charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without working break lights, violation of pre-trial conditions, and violation of a suspended sentence.
Robert Edwin Deuel was arrested after a Special Enforcement Team deputy was driving an unmarked patrol vehicle in the area of Fairview Drive and U.S. Highway 50 East when a vehicle was observed turning south onto Fairview Drive, and the vehicle’s left brake light was not functioning.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Deuel, and a woman in the passenger seat. She said Deuel was driving her for her color-code testing at the court house. Dispatch advised they were both on supervision with the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing (DAS) for controlled substance-related cases.
Another deputy arrived to write a citation for the broken tail light, and the SET deputy called in K-9 deputy Ivo to conduct an exterior free-air sniff around the vehicle. Ivo gave a positive alert of drug odor at the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.
The deputy located one gram of methamphetamine on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat.
Both Deuel and the woman denied ownership of the drugs, but since it was directly behind Deuel, possession was attributed to him over the woman, according to he report.
Deuel was arrested, and the woman was released.
