Carson City weekend arrest log: Man admits to stealing equipment from former employer
A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday after admitting to breaking into the maintenance yard of his former employer to steal material goods to use on his own home, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Bob Allen Wooldridge was taken into custody just after midnight Sunday and booked on a felony charge of commercial burglary. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to Southwest Gas at 400 Eagle Station Lane for a burglary in progress. The reporting witness, who was watching via live video surveillance, told dispatch they saw a man with a flashlight in the secured gated area going through the company bins.
Deputies arrived and the employee opened the secured area, which was attached to the Southwest Gas facility. The secured area was enclosed by a wall, approximately six feet, and had multiple buildings inside the area. The employee directed deputies to the yard where he saw the man hide in between some black pipes, the arrest report states.
A search of the area began and a deputy found a black duffel bag with metal items inside. During the search officers announced they were with the sheriff’s office and instructed the man to come out with his hands in plain view.
After approximately five minutes a deputy said she saw someone in the sage brush near a blue bin. The officers instructed the man, identified as Wooldridge, to show his hands. He came out. was handcuffed and read his Miranda rights. Wooldridge said he understood his rights and wished to speak.
Deputies asked why he was in the locked area of Southwest Gas. The man replied he was a former employee at Southwest Gas and said he broke in to steal some parts so he could use them to build items at his home. He admitted the duffel bag belonged to him and said the parts in the bag were items he was trying to take, the arrest report states. He was also carrying a flashlight.
The reporting witness completed a written statement that said that at approximately 11:30 p.m., he saw the security screen and then saw Wooldridge going through the recycle bin in the secured area. The witness called 911 and directed deputies to the area. Inside the duffel bag were two gas regulators, a gas meter motor, miscellaneous pipe fittings, metal pipes, screws and bolts. Bail: $20,000.
In other arrests:
— A 35-year-old Auburn, Calif., man was arrested Sunday, 11:39 p.m. in the 2700 block of south Carson Street on a gross misdemeanor charge of battery of a police officer and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and obstructing and resisting arrest.
According to the booking report, deputies responded to a motel regarding a report of domestic battery. A deputy located the suspect in a walkway. The man yelled obscenities at and then charged the deputy, taking a swing with a balled fist. The deputy sidestepped the punch and was able to detain and place him into cuffs.
Other deputies assisted bringing the man to his feet. During that time he was screaming, spitting and being uncooperative. As he was being escorted down the stairwell the man let his body go limp and he refused to stand. He told the officer “I’m going to f*** you up,” and then whipped his head and head-butted the deputy, the arrest report states. The man then continued to spit inside the patrol car on the way to jail. Deputies then spoke with the victim of the domestic battery and determined the man was the primary physical aggressor. Bail: $6,049.
— A 26-year-old Carson City man, Pedro Meza-Martinez, was arrested Sunday, 10:09 a.m. in the 700 block of Fairview Drive on a felony charge of probation violation, and misdemeanor charges of suspicion of DUI second offense and following too close.
According to the arrest report, a deputy made a vehicle stop because the driver was following too closely to another vehicle with snow and slush on the roads.
The deputy made contact with the driver and could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and showed other signs of possible intoxication. The officer explained why she stopped him. The man told the deputy he had consumed about 10 beers while in Reno but had stopped some time around midnight.
Dispatch advised the man was on state parole and probation and requested detainment due to the drinking and the preliminary breath test which indicated a .100. The officer arrested the man and requested his cooperation while conducting field sobriety tests once at the jail facility in which he subsequently failed.
Bail: $2,646 on the misdemeanor charges and a no bail hold on the felony probation violation charge.
— A 52-year-old Carson City man, Barry N. Guidry, was arrested Sunday, 4:22 p.m. in the area of Fourth and Carson streets on a felony fugitive from justice warrant out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and misdemeanor charges of suspicion of DUI, open container, failure to maintain a lane of traffic and impeding traffic.
According to the arrest report, a deputy observed a vehicle stopped at a stop light and remained stopped when the light turned green for approximately 10 seconds. The officer followed the vehicle, where it failed to maintain a lane of traffic in the area of Telegraph Street, nearly striking the curb on the west side of the road.
The officer conducted a traffic stop with their overhead flashing lights but the vehicle would not stop for approximately 2 blocks. The officer then activated their siren and the vehicle continued, attempting to turn onto Third Street but missing the turn and continuing southbound on Carson Street to Fourth Street where it stopped. After stopping the driver immediately got out of the vehicle.
The deputy instructed the driver to remain in the car. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the man, who also had slurred speech. The deputy asked the man if he had recently had any alcoholic beverages. The man said he had “a couple beers” at his apartment. He provided his license after being asked twice.
Dispatch confirmed the felony warrant out of Louisiana which was extraditable and he was arrested. He was taken to jail where he refused to take standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed to take a voluntary blood test. Bail: $1,400 for the local charges and a no bail hold, awaiting extradition.
— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 4:09 a.m. in the area of William and State streets on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI. Bail: $1,137. According to the arrest report, the vehicle was stopped because the suspect was driving without his headlights, going 34 mph in a 25 mph zone. She showed signs of impairment and had alcohol on her breath. She submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .165 and was taken to jail. Bail: $1,137.
— A 26-year-old Carson City man, Matthew Karl Bryant, was arrested Saturday, 3:19 p.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East on a felony charge of being a sex offender failing to register. Bail: $5,000.
— A 37-year-old Reno woman was arrested Saturday, 7:12 p.m. in the 1300 block of Fremont Street on a gross misdemeanor charge of attempt to destroy evidence, DUI drugs and possession of marijuana. Bail: $4,374.
— A 32-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Monday, 5:29 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Carson Street on a misdemeanor warrant, failure to comply, issued Jan. 14, 2016. Bail: $1,000.
— A 60-year-old man was arrested Sunday, 5:37 p.m. on misdemeanor charges of driving with a revoked license for DUI and failure to obey a traffic signal. Bail: $1,115.
— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 12:24 p.m. in the 1300 block of Continental Drive on a misdemeanor warrant, violation of a suspended sentence. Bail; $1,000.
— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 10:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of Latigo Drive on misdemeanor warrant charges of domestic battery, stalking and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $8,500.
