Carson City area weather: Storm to bring snow to Sierra, light snow possible on valley floors

Another weather system, much weaker than last week's storm, will move through the Sierra late Monday into Tuesday bringing snow at Lake Tahoe and chances of light snow showers down to the valley floors, according to the National Weather Service.
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Monday night through late Tuesday morning for the greater Lake Tahoe area. The weather service says heavy snow possible for the area, with total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches at lake level, and anywhere from 8 to 18 inches above 7,000 feet possible.
The highest snow totals will likely be near and west of Highway 89. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph across higher elevations of the Sierra, according to the weather service. The weather service warns travel in the Sierra could be very difficult, with hazardous conditions impacting commutes from Monday evening through Tuesday evening.
As for valley locations from Reno to Carson City to Carson Valley, the National Weather Service forecast says there may be around a half-inch of snow by Tuesday morning, and less than a half-inch Tuesday night.
