Homeless programs in Carson City and Fallon among Nevada cities to receive $13.4M in HUD grants

U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen of Nevada announced Thursday that $13,417,083 in grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Continuum of Care Program, which provides support for those experiencing homelessness, will be awarded to organizations in the Silver State.

The 50 grants were awarded to organizations in Carson City, Fallon, Reno, Sparks, Winnemucca, Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and Pahrump.

“We are pleased to see these grants go to organizations all over the Silver State working hard to support Nevadans who don’t have a stable place to live. Nevada is facing one of the worst housing crises in the nation, and we are committed to working in Washington to address this problem and secure federal funds for our state. We’ll keep pushing to ensure that all Nevadans have affordable housing in both the short and long term,” the Senators said in a joint news release.

The Continuum of Care (CoC) Program is designed to promote communitywide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness; provide funding for efforts by nonprofit providers and State and local governments to quickly rehouse homeless individuals and families while minimizing the trauma and dislocation caused by homelessness; promote access to and effect utilization of mainstream programs by homeless individuals and families; and optimize self-sufficiency among individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

It is unknown at this time which organizations in Northern Nevada will be receiving a share of the grant money. We will update as soon as that information is released.
