NHP looks to public after driver leaves the scene of accident on Highway 50 in Lyon County
An single-vehicle accident on Highway 50 this morning in Lyon County provides a good opportunity for the Nevada Highway Patrol to warn motorists to wait for authorities to arrive before leaving the scene.
Troop Dan Lopez reports that NHP is looking for the driver of a yellow Pontiac Aztek who wasn't at the accident site when authorities arrived. The car went down an embankment on Highway 50 east around mile marker 15 about seven miles east of Dayton. The vehicle accident was reported at about 7:15 a.m. Saturday morning.
The vehicle is registered to a Bryon Boyles of Silver Springs. Someone apparently picked up the driver of the vehicle after the accident, Lopez said. It is unclear if Boyles was the driver.
"We have no idea who the driver is. There was no blood in the car, no purse no wallet or identification," Lopez said.
From what NHP has been able to establish, the driver lost control of the Pontiac, crossing over the yellow center line and then going down an embankment.
"What we believe is that the driver must have been picked up by another motorist, " Lopez said. "We want anybody out there who may know the car or the driver the car is was registered to, to contact us."
On any accident all parties must stay on scene until emergency personnel arrives. Witnesses to the event or anyone with additional information are encouraged to call the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center at (775) 687-0400 or Trooper Dan Lopez at (775) 720-2518
