South Lake Tahoe ski patroller identified in fatal incident at Heavenly
UPDATE: The man who died Saturday has been identified as 36-year-old Christopher John Nicholson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Nicholson was a member of the Heavenly Ski Patrol and had been working that day. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Washoe County Coroner’s Office is working to identify a cause of death, according to a DCSO news release.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — An employee with Heavenly Mountain Resort was involved in a serious accident Saturday, resulting in his death.
Heavenly Ski Patrol responded to a ski incident on an expert trail in Mott Canyon where they found the 36-year-old male employee. He was transported to Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville for further emergency care but he succumbed to his injuries.
“Heavenly Mountain Resort, Heavenly Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our employee’s family and friends,” said Tom Fortune, Vice President and General Manager of Heavenly Mountain Resort.
Heavenly is not releasing the name of the victim or any other details at this time. Friends and colleagues of the man said he was a ski patroller.
