Go Fund Me page established for Carson City shooting victim’s family
Friends of Grant Watkins, the victim in Monday's fatal shooting, have created a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the family.
The page was launched Monday with a goal of $10,000 needed to help with burial and other expenses for the family of the slain 18-year-old Carson City man. A family friend noted Grant’s mother is a local caregiver and the family has been struggling financially.
The Go Fund Me page states the following:
Last night, Amber and Gregg lost their first born child, their first born son, and 2 boys, Garrit and Gannon lost their older brother, they're inspiration. The worst thing a family can imagine has happened to them. Grant just graduated high school, was a natural entrepreneur with a bright future, and was the kindest most respectful person you could ever meet.
This family has been through so much and now will have to endure the greatest heartache anyone could imagine, burying their son/brother far too soon. However, they will not be able to afford to bury Grant, they work 40+ hours a week, while the money is consumed by the hotels they're forced to live in, they walk to work, to stores, everywhere regardless of the weather because they can't even afford transportation.
We've put this account in place, to raise money for this family, so that they may be able to provide a proper funeral and burial for Grant. They are just your average family that struggled every day to provide for each other, but now should not have to struggle to bury their child. Please find in your hearts to donate something, anything to them or at the very least share this message to as many people as possible. Thank you greatly! God Bless!

Meanwhile, Carson City sheriff’s office detectives continue to investigate the homicide and have asked the public to contact them for any information that may be helpful. Two Carson City brothers, Jesus Garcia-Manriquez, 18, and Allen Garcia-Manriquez, 19, were booked Monday into Carson City Jail on charges of principal to murder in the shooting death of Watkins. Authorities believe the shooting was over a transaction of 3 ounces of marijuana.
“This investigation remains extremely active,” said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
A subsequent search of the apartment the brothers lived in allowed detectives to retrieve approximately $10,000 cash and assorted drug paraphernalia and weights/packaging materials. No weapons were found.
Anyone with any information regarding the shooting is asked to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 887-2014. Reporting persons may remain anonymous.
