Carson City Board of Supervisors extend business license grace period, allocate non-profit funding
The newly elected Board of Supervisors, including Mayor Lori Bagwell, Supervisor Lisa Schuette, Supervisor Mo White, and appointed supervisor Stan Jones, along with Supervisor Stacey Giomi, met for their first board meeting of 2021 on Thursday.
The board agreed to allocate $151,381 of grant funding from the Community Development Block Grant-COVID 19 to local non-profits including Nevada Health Centers, the Carson City Senior Center, Spirit of Hope, and Advocates to End Domestic Violence.
Advocates to End Domestic Violence requested funding for a Shelter Transportation Vehicle. Nevada Health Centers requested funding for Enhanced Response to COVID-19 and Immunization Preparation. The Carson City Senior Center requested funding for Senior Center Meals. Spirit of Hope requested funding for COVID prevention: Professional Cleaning/New Housing/Technology.
— The Carson City Business Office requested an extension of a business license grace period for Carson City businesses.
Hope Sullivan of the Carson City Business License Office requested the emergency ordinance establishing a temporary suspension on the assessment of penalties for the late renewal of certain business licenses.
Sullivan stated that in addition to the struggle of COVID-19 Carson City businesses are facing, the business department is also struggling to change over systems and are facing a backlog of sending out invoices to businesses.
Sullivan asked for an extension of the grace period to extend through September 1. The Board passed the motion unanimously.
— Mayor Bagwell and Supervisor Giomi were elected to Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively, to the Redevelopment Authority Board to serve a one year term.
Supervisor Schuette was appointed to the Redevelopment Authority Citizen’s Committee to serve a three year term ending in Jan. of 2024.
