Library is the Place for Holiday Giving
Carson City Library is an officially designated place in Carson City to drop-off holiday cheer, in the form of giving, to so many of our area residents in need of a little festive spirit and warmth.
Capital City Circles Initiative:
The Capital city Circles Initiative is a collaborative effort between the Carson City community and the human services system to help elevate people out of poverty. Participants in Circles work with Allies 9members of the community) to establish goals in the pursuit of eventual self-sufficiency. Patrons may select a circle tag from the tree located in the breezeway near the library’s Youth Departments and return with a wrapped gift. Gifts will be accepted through December 15th.
The Mitten Tree:
The Mitten Tree is located in the breezeway heading into the Youth Department. Patrons may bring new donations of hats, scarves and mittens to decorate the tree. Local Girl Scout Troop 588 will pick up the donated items to be distribute to Carson City children in need.
Holiday Scholastic Book Fair:
The Book Fair is open daily through December 8th. Half of the funds raised will be donated to Carson City’s Food for Thought, a collaborative effort to give each of the approximately 750 needy children in our area a new book for Christmas. Community members may also purchase books to donate to this cause, or bring in gently used children’s book donations. The remaining money raised through the Scholastic Book Fair will be used to purchase book prizes for next year’s Summer Reading Program and for the Love on a Leash Program.
Probation Closet:
This collection of gently-worn clothing is sponsored by the Juvenile Probation Department. Clothing is all sizes is needed; NO shoes or undergarments.
Food for Thought:
Food for Thought feeds over 600 children weekly. Desired food donations include granola/power bars, trail mix, beef jerky or cheese & beef sets, and crackers with peanut butter or cheese. All items should be in original packaging and single servings. More information can be found at nvfoodforthought.org.
Toys for Tots:
In partnership with the Ron Woods Family Resource Center: A new, unwrapped toy in original packaging for area youth. Consider selecting gifts for boys and girls, 12 years old or older, which is an age group often overlooked. The BRIC (108 East Proctor) is also a drop location for Toys for Tots.
Ron Woods Food Pantry:
In addition to the toy drive, the library is a drop location for the Ron Woods food pantry. Recommended food donations include non-perishable canned or boxed goods, pastas, rice, dried beans, flour, grocery store gift cards, cereals, and baby food items.
