Bethlehem Lutheran School announces spelling bee winners
Bethlehem Lutheran School (BLS) has announced the winners of an all-school spelling bee, the finals for which were held Friday at the school.
The private K-8 school began with a total of 145 spelling contestants. Before Friday, it had narrowed the field down to the finalists. The championships round was held Friday at the school.
In the first and second-grade bee, second-grader Elena Lanza out-spelled five other opponents to take first place in the bee.
In the third through fifth grade bee, fifth-grader Samantha Steyn took first place while fending off eight other contestants. Sixth-grader Hayden Steyn took first place in the sixth through eighth grade portion of the school spelling bee.
Hayden, seventh-grader Caleb Potts and eighth-grader Alex Garton will represent Bethlehem in the City Spelling Bee.
Each winner now is eligible to compete in the State Spelling Bee, which will be held in Las Vegas. If you have any questions you may contact the school principal at 775-882-5252.
