Ventana Sierra Seeks Sponsors For Their Residents This Christmas
Ventana Sierra is a Carson City area housing resource for young adults who are homeless or who have aged out of the foster system. To date, they have two homes and an apartment open, and they are able to serve ten youth who need help. Right now, they have six youth who are living between the three properties, mainly all have been taken into the program from having been homeless.
Ventana Sierra is seeking sponsors to help buy Christmas gifts for their six residents. Kelly Foutz, the CEO of Ventana Sierra, says that although the kids will each receive a gift from the non-profit itself, the majority of the non-profit's money goes towards two mortgages, rent on the apartment, bills for all three residences, food for six youth, and school tuitions for four of the six kids.
"We are asking the community to come together to help these youth. Although there is a lot of attention on young foster and homeless children, people tend to forget the older youth," Foutz said.
There will be a party of sorts, referred to as a "Stocking Party" at one of the boys homes on December 21st at 4 pm. Each sponsor can personally give their gifts to the youth they choose to sponsor, and stay for the party and refreshments.
