Carson Valley Businesses Aim to Take a Bite Out of Hunger this Holiday Season
GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — Eddy Street Vintage Market is hosting its Second Annual Canned Food Drive this Friday-Sunday at 1235 Eddy Street in the Main Street Gardnerville District. Donations of 10 cans or more will result in a 10% discount on your purchase through the weekend.
“Our goal is to fill the truck with cans for the community,” said owner, Meredith Fischer. “We had a great turnout last year for our canned food drive but this year, we want to do more.”
A group of Carson Valley businesses decided to up the ante and match the donation from the community. Some of the participating businesses include: Shear Heaven, Peak Nutrition, Silver State Building Materials, Dr. David Newell, DDS, Blank Slate Imagery and Eddy Street Vintage Market.
“The thought of someone not having enough to eat, especially children, is heartbreaking to me,” said Dave Evans, owner of Peak Nutrition. “You have to be part of something that provides local relief to those who need help, especially with a basic necessity like food.”
All donations will benefit the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, who provides dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas to over 1,000 families. Managing Director, Sarah Sanchez said, “this means our friends, neighbors and fellow residents do not go hungry each day.”
The Carson Valley Community Food Closet has been serving the area since 1989.
“Our community is only as strong as its members,” Sanchez said. “It takes a combined effort to ensure the future success for generations to come.”
