Carson City Murals and Music Festival hosts free outdoor concert tonight with Mike Clark & The Sugar Sounds; Kilowatt Hours as opening act

September 28, 2024 - 5:00pm Carson City Music & Murals Festival finale tonight happens with a free concert presented by Canine Rehabilitation Center & Cat Sanctuary on the Brewery Arts Center Outdoor Stage on Saturday, Sept. 28 featuring Mike Clark & The Sugar Sounds and opening act Kilowatt Hours.
Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs but folding chairs will be available for those traveling light. Also enjoy local food trucks and refreshments from the BAC bar.
Headlining the show is Pueblo, Colo., based Mike Clark, a prolific songwriter and performer whose past projects run the gamut from country-punk (The Jack Trades) to bluegrass gypsy folk (The River Arkansas). Most notably Clark made up one-fifth of the popular Americana outfit The Haunted Windchimes, which saw him sharing stages with everyone from Ramblin’ Jack Elliott to Garrison Keillor. Even playing before a listening audience of 4 million on A Prairie Home Companion.
Revel in the enigmatic performer forged by these legendary events and catch Mike Clark steeped in rock & roll and suffused with garage soul while backed by his band The Sugar Sounds.
Carson City favorites The Kilowatt Hours will open the show at 5 p.m.
The Brewery Arts Center Outdoor Stage is at 449 West King Street, Carson City.
Films featured Saturday at BAC Outdoor Stage
As part of this weekend's Music and Murals festival in Carson City, celebrate the memory of the of the 21st century’s two most prolific muralists during a free screening at the BAC Outdoor Stage on Saturday. Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs but folding chairs will be available for those traveling light. Also enjoy local food trucks and refreshments from the BAC bar.
3:20pm Lost & Found: The Legacy of Muralist Jon Metcalf by Diane Weiss. A journalist finds a painting in a thrift store that leads her on a quest to find out about artist John Metcalf and his life.
3:40pm Road to Colossus by Erik Burke featuring Russell “buZ blurr” Butler who has adorned tens of thousands of railcars across North America. The documentary follows Burke on a cross-country bicycle ride to interview the infamous muralist at his home.
The program is from 3:30 pm - 4:50 pm at the Brewery Arts Center Outdoor Stage, 449 West King Street, Carson City.

The Brewery Arts Center’s second annual Carson City Murals & Music Festival brings artists and live musical performances and as many as 21 new, colorful murals to Carson City from Thursday through Saturday. This year’s festival artists have added 23 murals created at last year's inaugural festival.
Local, national and international artists will create murals in public spaces around Carson City. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet artists as they create their murals over the three three-day festival, including Jabi Corte from Spain; Priscilla Aldana G. (Prism) from Mexico; Charly Malpass from Truckee, Calif., Gregg Deal from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and others.

The murals from 2023’s festival serve as a permanent outdoor art gallery. The murals painted during the 2024 festival will expand Carson City’s accessible public art for all to enjoy.
Festival goers can also participate in hands-on art experiences painting at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada and creating with clay at Ogres-Holm Pottery. Look for a full schedule of events that will be available via Visit Carson City.
Brewery Arts Center, Visit Carson City and Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space are partnering to produce the festival as a public art campaign that aligns with the city’s 2022-26 Arts and Culture Strategic Plan. Generously supported by Visit Carson City, Nevada Arts Council, community organizations, local businesses and private donations, the festival is free and open to visitors of all ages.
