Ideas on Tap discussion Wednesday in Carson City to focus on critical race theory
"Critical Race Theory and Why is it Under Attack?" will be Wednesday’s Sept. 8 Ideas on Tap topic of discussion to be held at the Union Eatery and Brewery in Carson City beginning, 6 p.m.
This is a free event and open to the public, in adherence with the CDC guidelines attendees are asked to wear a face mask. If you’re fully vaccinated, face masks are optional.
With all the misunderstanding and lack of knowledge around CRT the topic has exploded in the public arena this spring-especially in K-12, where numerous state legislatures are debating bills seeking to ban its use in the classroom.
The events of the last decade have increased public awareness about things like housing segregation, the impacts of criminal justice policy in the 1990s, just to name a few. But there is much less consensus on what the government’s role should be in righting these past wrongs. Add children and schooling into the mix and the debate becomes especially volatile.
This month's panelists are: Mr. Lonnie Feemster, Reno/ Sparks NAACP, Vice President; Mr. Richard Stokes, Carson City School District Superintendent; and Ms. Tiffany Young, Consultant: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Cultural Competency.
