Shiny Soles Boot and Shoeshine program seeks community support, drop off at Carson City's Silver Oak Golf Club
Shiny Soles Boot and Shoe Shine is hosting a shoe drive for Soles4Souls, a social enterprise model that repurposes gently worn shoes by creating opportunities for people in need all around the globe.
In places like Haiti, Honduras and many parts of Africa, people are forced to generate their own income. Soles4Souls is committed to helping people around the world create small businesses selling new and gently worn shoes.
As a small business owner, "the shoes you collect are the tools they need to start and sustain small businesses of their own, help create long-term solutions to global poverty. says Mike Smith, owner of Shiny Soles Boot and Shoe Shine. Smith is encouraging those who can please donate to this non-profit organization.
You can drop off your new, or gently worn shoes at Silver Oak Golf Course pro shop starting Saturday, Sept. 2 through Sept. 30. In the year 2022 alone 29,440 pairs of shoes went to Ukraine relief.
"Shoes also contributes to the social, physical and emotional health of a child along with increase attendance" according to Smith, a retired high school Principal who served 33 years in the K-12 education sector in North Mississippi and Shelby County Schools in Memphis, TN.
Smith, says this is Shiny Soles Boot and Shoe Shine first time to participate in this Soles4Souls shoe drive. His goal is to collect over 500 pairs of shoes for this worthy cause. I know the citizens in Carson City and the surrounding areas are cheerful givers, therefore I'm asking all individuals, community organizations and faith-based organizations to spring in and help those in need around the world while reflecting the values at the core of their organizations and congregations.
As an added incentive for those who give toward this shoe drive Shiny Soles Boot and Shoe Shine will provide one complimentary boot, or shoe shine when you donate 4 shoes, and 2 complimentary boot, or shoe shine when you donate seven pairs or more.
For those who don't have shoes to give, donations are graciously accepted in order to purchase more shoes. For additional information, and or questions, please contact Mike Smith at 775-508-9305, or smithm410@yahoo.com. Please visit shinysoles.com
