Carson City School Board candidate to speak at Democratic luncheon

Event Date:
August 19, 2024 - 1:00pm

The speaker at the August 19th Democratic luncheon will be Michelle Pedersen, candidate for Carson City School Board of Trustees, District 7.

The following was taken from Michelle Pedersen's campaign website:

"Michelle Pedersen’s journey in Carson City began 20 years ago when she and her husband chose this vibrant community as the place to raise their family. With four children who have thrived in Carson City School District schools, Michelle’s personal and volunteer life has been deeply intertwined with the educational and community fabric of Carson City.

Michelle’s dedication to community service is evident from her impressive volunteer resume. She has spent 17 years volunteering in various capacities within Carson City schools, from assisting in classrooms and the front office to coordinating health screenings and school events. Her involvement extends beyond the schools. She has been a pivotal leader in Carson City Little League for 14 years, serving as a coach and board member, including terms as President and Vice President. Under her leadership, the league flourished, supporting over 650 kids and managing over 150 volunteers.

Her commitment didn’t stop at sports. For 13 years, Michelle also served as the Parent Volunteer Coordinator for Youth Theatre Carson City, helping to nurture young talents and organize competitive trips that brought pride to our community.

Michelle’s service extends into emergency and health support roles, whether volunteering at the Red Cross during wildfire evacuations or organizing annual fire safety presentations in schools. Each role she has taken on showcases her multifaceted ability to lead, organize, and care for others, particularly in times of need.

Michelle believes in a hands-on approach and being actively involved. She is a proponent of the philosophy that joining an activity or group is a family commitment, which has guided her through numerous volunteer roles, enriching the experiences of not only her family but also her community.

Her philosophy extends into her vision for the Carson City School Board. She believes that it is essential for adults to step up and provide quality leadership and opportunities for children to ensure their development into confident, successful adults.

Today, Michelle aims to leverage her vast experience as a volunteer and community leader to impact a broader spectrum of Carson City’s youth. She is committed to enhancing the educational environment for all children in the district, ensuring they have access to top-notch educational opportunities and extracurricular activities that foster their talents and confidence.

Michelle is not motivated by political ambition but by a genuine desire to contribute to and enhance the community that has given so much to her and her family. As a candidate for the Carson City School Board, Michelle Pedersen is dedicated to ensuring that our schools not only serve our children today but prepare them to be the leaders of tomorrow."

This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, August 19th, and can either be attended in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. The presentation will begin after all orders have been taken - around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.

While some may believe that Nevada’s state motto may be Battle Born, this is a common misconception. Battle Born is a saying that came from the fact that the statehood of Nevada was ratified at the end of the Civil War, which gave President Abraham Lincoln the votes he needed to free slaves in the doomed confederacy and across the nation.

The true motto of Nevada is “All for Our Country,” which, interestingly, was born out of the same circumstances as the more often used Battle Born.
