Annual Carson City Donkeys vs Elephants Basketball Game 2017 this Wednesday
CARSON CITY — Can Republicans go left? Can Democrats go right to the hoop? Those are two questions to be answered when elected officials of both parties meet for the Biennial Donkey/Elephant Basketball Classic benefiting the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs of Seniors in Service.
The game pits elected Republican officeholders against their Democrat counterparts. Tip-off is Wednesday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Morse Burley Gym at Carson High School, 1111 S. Saliman Road in Carson City.
The game is often a hotly contested affair, especially as the clock winds down and both sides attempt to claim victory. In the ten games on record, the Republicans lead the series six games to four. The Secretary of State organizes the game traditionally played during the legislative session.
Tickets for the Donkey/Elephant Basketball Classic are just $10 for adults or $5 for children and seniors, and may be purchased at the door, or in advance through Mary Brock at Seniors in Service, (775) 358-2322.
A portion of ticket proceeds from the Basketball Classic will be donated to the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs of Seniors in Service, an organization that helps maintain the dignity and productivity of the senior citizens.
The Foster Grandparent Program places senior volunteers, 55 years and older, in supervised settings within K-12 schools, public agencies, family drug court, juvenile detention, etc. with the goal of helping at-risk children meeting academic standards, as well as providing positive intergenerational social interaction. Senior Companion volunteers help seniors remain independent through basic social support such as visits, transportation to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, etc.
