Carson City Sheriff's Office to host Mounted Patrol Night Sensory firework training Friday
Residents and visitors are invited to watch the Mounted Patrol Night Sensory Firework training exercise at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds rodeo arena in Carson City, this Friday, April 26, set to begin around 7 p.m., weather permitting. Attendees must park in the rodeo entrance parking lot. All ages are welcome to observe and cheer officers as they attempt to triumph and complete the roughest test in the series.
“Mounted Units throughout the region work closely together and provide a safe atmosphere for a variety of events throughout Nevada. The Northern Nevada Mounted School program is one of the strongest examples of inter-agency cooperation with both volunteer and paid officers working side-by-side to ensure everyone’s welfare,” said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The fireworks that will be used for the event are not aerial, and generally have more of a hissing sound than an explosive sound.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office proudly supports the Mounted Patrol program which offers training and certification to individuals with law enforcement background interested in providing a service to the public in the Mounted Patrol. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit is a traditionally honored service ensuring public safety and security during ceremonial and large-scale events.
Regional partners throughout Northern Nevada participate in the Mounted Patrol School to provide sensory training, formation riding and surveillance to prepare for a wide range of response scenarios.
During the week of April 23 through 28, volunteers from surrounding counties are saddling up and undergoing a series of challenging exercises to gain the experience and skills required for the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit and other Mounted Patrol divisions throughout Nevada.
The main event is Friday April 26; the focus of the event is Night Sensory Fireworks. The purpose is to expose both the Mounted Officer and the horse to obstacles while confronting sporadic conditions.
The Night Sensory Firework exercise is only tested on the most qualified horse and officer pairs, which must demonstrate the desired consistency throughout the training process.
