Carson City Health & Human Services Announces Opportunity for Residents to Save on Medications and Health Care Costs

Carson City Health & Human Services announces an opportunity for residents to save money on their medications and health care costs through a program with NeedyMeds, a national non-profit organization.
Entitled CAMP (Community Access to Medications Program) and endorsed by Carson City Health & Human Services, the is a collaborative effort designed to help community members save on their prescription and healthcare costs by using a number of different resources. CAMP is a turnkey program that draws on the success NeedyMeds has had in helping other communities and organizations implement the various components of CAMP.
The program will make available to Carson City residents a NeedyMeds drug discount card. The card, which is widely accepted by area pharmacies and over 70,000 pharmacies nationwide, provides a discount for consumers purchasing prescriptions drugs that are not covered under their insurance plan. The drug discount card will be provided free any resident. The card may be used to obtain up to an 80% discount on prescription medications, over-the-counter medications or medical supplies written as a prescription, as well as pet medications purchased at a pharmacy. The drug discount card is available to print from our website www.gethealthycarsoncity.org by scrolling to the bottom of our homepage and clicking on the Free Prescription Drug Card link. Cards are also being distributed at the Health Department at 900 E. Long Street.
CAMP will also help local residents enroll in patient assistance programs, called PAPs. PAPs are programs offered by many pharmaceutical manufacturers. They supply medications at no or low cost to individuals who can't afford to purchase the medicines. The applicants have to meet certain requirements to qualify for these programs. Annually, PAPs provide billions of dollars worth of medication savings to consumers.
According to Richard J. Sagall, MD, President of NeedyMeds, “In this economic climate, many people face tough decisions about what they can afford, often having to choose between food, housing and medications. CAMP will enable Carson City residents to access the medications they are struggling to pay for and improve their quality of life.”
NeedyMeds, a national nonprofit, is a comprehensive and reliable source of information on assistance programs available for people having difficulties paying for their medications or health care. The website (www.needymeds.org) is visited by approximately 17,000 people each workday. NeedyMeds' information is always free, easy to access, and updated regularly. Unlike similar sites, NeedyMeds requires no registration and gathers no identifiable information on site visitors.
