Chris Forbush the Only Candidate Endorsed by Republican Party in Assembly District 40 Race
Carson City – Chris Forbush, candidate for State Assembly District 40 against PK O’Neill, was the only candidate in the race to receive endorsement from the Carson City Republican Party. The official endorsement was announced following the GOP County Convention held in Carson City on April 9th.
The Republican Party’s Central Committee convened to vote on which candidates were conservative, strong, and would best represent District 40, as well as which were most capable of beating PK O’Neill, the incumbent Assemblyman for District 40 who voted for last year’s massive tax hike. After censuring O’Neill and giving all other candidates in the race an opportunity to speak, Committee members cast ballots indicating their preference for endorsement. To receive endorsement, a candidate needed to obtain the positive nod from at least a two-thirds majority. Over 95 ballots were cast and Forbush was the only candidate to pass the two-thirds threshold, receiving nearly 80% of the vote. All other Assembly District 40 candidates failed to reach the two-thirds threshold, including Al Kramer, who received 14 fewer votes than Forbush, coming in at just over 60%. Sam England, who failed to appear and also neglected to send a representative of his campaign to speak on his behalf, received less than 25%. Both Kramer and England were not endorsed.
“I think the vetting process did exactly what the party hoped it would do,” said Forbush, who was also found to be the strongest and most conservative candidate by the GOP evaluation committee a week earlier. “The Republican Party has been hurting for strong, principled leadership after seeing what people in our own party, like PK, the governor, and others, have done to us. We don’t want to vote PK out just to have another PK back in. In this race, all the candidates are claiming to be conservative Republicans, but fool us once, shame on you, fool us twice, shame on us. The vetting process, under the very skilled direction of the neutral evaluation committee, revealed the not-so-conservative views of some of the candidates. That paved the way for the Central Committee voters to cast an informed vote. It was fair and very effective. Both the endorsement and the evaluation results will now give all voters excellent information with which to also cast informed votes this coming June primary election.”
Forbush, a former personal fitness training small business owner, interned for two state legislative sessions. He is a longtime student of the Constitution and founding political philosophy. Forbush graduated debt free with Honors from Brigham Young University law school and currently practices as a contract attorney.
