The Desert Research Institute Foundation presents the 31st Nevada Medal honoring world-renowned astronaut and explorer Dr. Kathryn D. Sullivan.
Titled “Sea, Earth & Sky: Celebrating the Spirit of Scientific Exploration, Discovery & Innovation,” the special, hour-long program highlights Dr. Sullivan’s remarkable career as an oceanographer, NASA astronaut, and administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Dr. Sullivan is the first American woman to walk in space and the first woman to reach the deepest-known spot in our Earth’s oceans.
The 2021 Nevada Medal will be like no other in its 30-year history and features a fireside chat between Dr. Sullivan and award-winning writer for The Atlantic and best-selling author James Fallows.
During the conversation, Dr. Sullivan will share her wish for planet Earth, what she believes are the top environmental challenges facing us, and a message for aspiring scientists.
