Open auditions Feb. 24 for Proscenium Players' production of 'The Taming of the Shrew'
Open auditions for actors and actresses age 16 or older for Proscenium Players’ May production of Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew” will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at Silver State Charter School Performing Arts Center, 900 Mallory Rd., Carson City.
Performances will be at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on May 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26.
Directed by Jeff Fast and performed in traditional Shakespearean language and style, the play tells the story of a rich merchant who won’t allow his fair young daughter to marry until her shrewish older sister does. The main plot depicts the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio tempers her with various psychological torments—the "taming"—until she becomes a compliant and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina's more desirable sister, Bianca.
