Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jason Hastings, one of five candidates for Mayor of Carson City. Jason earned a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from UNR in 2012. The primary is set for June 11, with early voting beginning on May 25th. The top two will advance to the general election.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Adam Keller, spokesperson for Gush Shalom (Hebrew for "Peace Bloc"), an extra-parliamentary organization independent of any political party. The group objects to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and opposes Israel's policies of blockade and non-recognition of the Gaza Strip. They support a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, with the Green Line as the border except for minor exchanges of territories, and with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Mark Robison, Local Government Reporter and Community Engagement Director at the Reno Gazette Journal. Mark is experienced in writing about complex and nuanced topics in easy-to-understand ways. In addition to his government beat, he also writes the RGJ's Fact Checker and Ask the RGJ columns. Mark is a 1987 graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas.

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jodi Miller, center manager for Night Off the Streets. NOTS works to connect clients with city agencies and non-profits to address issues that contribute to being unhoused, including medical problems, lack of affordable housing, and lost documents needed for job interviews. Miller oversees warming center operations and serves as a referral advocate to connect clients to services that help them find housing.

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Andy Hummel, PE, manager of water and wastewater utilities at Carson City Public Works. He will provide an overview of city's water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities, touching on those systems' history, operations, quality control and growth capacity, as well as current and future projects that may be of interest to the general public.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sondra Cosgrove, PhD, professor of history at the College of Southern Nevada, former president of the League of Women Voters of Nevada, and founder and executive director of both Fair Maps Nevada and Vote Nevada.

Truckee Meadows Community College political science professor Fred Lokken will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Prof. Lokken will give his expert analysis of the recently concluded 82nd regular session and special sessions. He will also look ahead to the 2024 election season.

Speaking at the June 5th Democratic luncheon will be Carson City library director Joy Holt. She will catch us up on all of library's many doings, and is prepared to consider suggestions from the audience for even more doings.

Joy Holt's resume includes experience as a library aide, library assistant, academic student reference librarian, assistant library director, digital services librarian, assistant to the state librarian and deputy library director.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be biologist Craig Downer, who will explain with specificity why he strongly supports SB90, a bill which designates the wild mustang as the official state horse of the State of Nevada.

The Legislative Counsel’s digest of SB90 states: "Existing law designates numerous state emblems, including, without limitation, a state bird, state insect, state reptile, state animal, state fish and others. This bill designates the wild mustang as the official state horse of the State of Nevada."

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Christina Lopez, who will be pinch hitting for Kate Marshall, Nevada's 35th lieutenant governor. Marshall, previously announced as the speaker, found herself unable to attend due to a last minute schedule change, so Ms. Lopez, a close associate and former staffer, was asked speak on her behalf.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sarah Adler, Principal at Silver State Government Relations. She will provide an update on how key bills have faired in the legislative process so far this session, with special focus on bills related to affordable and supportive housing.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Chas Macquarie of the Citizens Climate Lobby. In honor of Earth Week, his presentation, entitled “Building Electrification,” will present information about how electrification of buildings and vehicles is impacting the climate. Also discussed will be how it is now possible to achieve significant savings on home energy costs thanks to rebates and tax credits for home energy improvements included in the Inflation Reduction Act.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sara Manns of Compassion & Choices. She will lead a detailed discussion of the End-of-Life-Options Act currently before the Nevada legislative.

Democratic lawmakers are once again attempting to legalize the use of life-ending medication for terminally ill patients in Nevada.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Calen Evans, President of the Washoe Education Association (WEA). He will present a teacher perspective on which proposals currently being considered by the 82nd Session support public education, and which do not.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Karen Gedney MD, author of 30 Years Behind Bars: Trials of a Prison Doctor. Dr Gedney is an internal medicine specialist who spent almost three decades as a physician in Nevada's correctional system. Today she is an outspoken advocate for Holistic Prison Reform.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Superintendent of Schools Andrew Feuling. Having served as the district's chief financial officer for eight years prior to taking over the top job, he has a detailed understanding of where the available revenue covers the cost of state mandates and where it doesn't. Exactly where the money and the mandates need to be brought into harmony will be addressed in Part Two of the Superintendent's PowerPoint presentation.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sarah Adler, Principal at Silver State Government Relations. She will speak on behalf of the Nevada Housing Coalition, a group that works with legislators on policy solutions that address both the shortage of affordable and supportive housing and access to existing housing.

Affordable housing is defined by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development as “Housing for which the occupants are paying no more than 30% of his or her income for gross housing costs.”

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Amber Falgout, Northern Nevada Manager of Battle Born Progress. Her presentation will provide an assessment of bills before the 82nd session that deserve progressive support and others that might be inconsistent with progressive values.

On the Battle Born Progress website, the headline is "We Fight the Right in Nevada." Its mission statement says that it "uses strategic communication efforts to empower, engage and mobilize Nevada voters to build a state where everyone has a fair opportunity to succeed."

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Hall of Fame broadcaster Sam Shad, host of Nevada Newsmakers, long the state’s premier news and political program.

Sam started in Reno radio on KGLR in 1978. His first foray into the position of talk show host was in 1990 with a radio program on KHIT, which later moved to KROW 780 AM where he also did daily commentaries.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jodi Hocking, Executive Director of Return Strong, a grassroots organization born in the heart of the pandemic by a group of women with incarcerated loved ones who came together to fight for transparency and accountability in Nevada's prisons.

His PowerPoint presentation will commemorate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the national holiday observed in his honor since 1986.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Devan Doan, Rural Engagement Coordinator for the Nevada State Democratic Party (NSDP). His presentation will lay out plans in the works for the upcoming legislative session, and ways in which Carson City's Democrats may be able to assist with those efforts.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be artisan chocolatier Laura Fink, proprietor of Moondance Chocolates. Laura hand crafts her exquisite creations in the rectory kitchen behind the Brewery Arts Center performance hall. They are on display and sold on the BAC's ground floor. A portion of all proceeds go to support the BAC's many community programs.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Librarian Joy Holt, who assumed the position on October 1st after serving several months as acting director. Her predecessor, Tod Colegrove, is now dean of the Albertsons Library at Boise State.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Kenneth T. Furlong, the 26th sheriff to serve Carson City and Ormsby County since 1861. Among the topics to be discussed will be school security, the Sheriff Department's deescalation policy, and what may be unintended consequences of current juvenile detention practices. He will also be prepared to field questions on any issues of concern to the community.

Truckee Meadows Community College political science professor Fred Lokken will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Prof. Lokken will give his expert analysis of the recent midterm election and look ahead to the lame duck session of congress, the 2023 legislative session, and prospects for 2024, including the possibility of Nevada hosting the first in the nation presidential primary.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Joe Bly, Program Director at KNVC, 95.1 FM. Joe will be telling the remarkable story of how Carson City's all-volunteer community radio station was born, how it continues to thrive on a shoestring budget, and how members of the community can help keep it on air and on course into the future.

The featured speakers at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Mike Wiencek, Brewery Arts Center Director of Operations. "Mikey" has worked at the Brewery Arts Center since 2015, initially as a volunteer, and has played a key role in helping the BAC grow into the community arts hub that it is today. A proud Marine Corps veteran, he has been involved in broadcast media and the arts for more than 25 years.
