Mayoral candidate to speak at Democratic luncheon

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jason Hastings, one of five candidates for Mayor of Carson City. Jason earned a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from UNR in 2012. The primary is set for June 11, with early voting beginning on May 25th. The top two will advance to the general election.

Israeli peace activist to speak at Democratic luncheon

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Adam Keller, spokesperson for Gush Shalom (Hebrew for "Peace Bloc"), an extra-parliamentary organization independent of any political party. The group objects to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and opposes Israel's policies of blockade and non-recognition of the Gaza Strip. They support a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, with the Green Line as the border except for minor exchanges of territories, and with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.

RGJ local government reporter to speak at Democratic luncheon

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Mark Robison, Local Government Reporter and Community Engagement Director at the Reno Gazette Journal. Mark is experienced in writing about complex and nuanced topics in easy-to-understand ways. In addition to his government beat, he also writes the RGJ's Fact Checker and Ask the RGJ columns. Mark is a 1987 graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas.

Night Off the Streets manager to speak at Democratic luncheon

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jodi Miller, center manager for Night Off the Streets. NOTS works to connect clients with city agencies and non-profits to address issues that contribute to being unhoused, including medical problems, lack of affordable housing, and lost documents needed for job interviews. Miller oversees warming center operations and serves as a referral advocate to connect clients to services that help them find housing.

City's water manager to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be biologist Craig Downer, who will explain with specificity why he strongly supports SB90, a bill which designates the wild mustang as the official state horse of the State of Nevada.

The Legislative Counsel’s digest of SB90 states: "Existing law designates numerous state emblems, including, without limitation, a state bird, state insect, state reptile, state animal, state fish and others. This bill designates the wild mustang as the official state horse of the State of Nevada."
