Muscle Powered featured at Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Donna Inversin, a member of the Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee since 2011. She has been a Muscle Powered board member since 2007, and in the years since has served as the group's president, secretary, treasurer, walk leader and trash mob organizer. The Muscle Powered organization works toward a community where walking and biking, for transportation or recreation, is a way of life. They promote creation of pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly infrastructure by developing and maintaining trails and resources.
Donna is also president of the Historic Virginia & Truckee Trail, a nonprofit dedicated to finding remaining sections of old V&T railbed and stitching them together into a rail-trail of between 60 and 80 miles. When completed, this trail will give Northern Nevada an echo of the historic Virginia and Truckee Railroad for the benefit and enjoyment of locals and visitors alike.
A registered nurse who strongly believes that being active and outdoors is essential to wellness and wellbeing, Donna came to Carson City in 2006 looking for a suitable place to retire. And she found what she was looking for: a small city where she could get involved, with easy access to hiking and camping, and ready availability of arts and cultural events. Best of all, it's a community where she could enjoy life with minimal need for an automobile.
Donna is a lifetime hiker who didn't learn to ride a bicycle until she was 62. She was born and raised in eastern San Diego County, near the Rancho Cuyamaca State Park. The California Riding and Hiking Trail and the trail that later became the Pacific Crest Trail were literally her playground growing up. While pursuing her nursing career in San Diego and Ventura counties, camping and hiking with her two children was always an important part of their lives.
After retiring to Carson City, Donna Inversin was pleased to learn about all the work that had been done over the years to preserve open spaces within the city limits. However she is quick to remind you that much more work remains to be done, as she will explain at Monday's luncheon.
This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, January 22nd, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. The presentation will begin after all the lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.
