The Carson Valley Arts Council’s 2023-2024 Concert Series is resuming with an
evening with Heather “Lil’ Mama” Hardy. Heather will perform at the CVIC Hall,
1602 Esmeralda in Minden, at 7 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024.

Heather “Lil' Mama” Hardy will light up the stage with incendiary music from
blues and jazz to rock and bluegrass. Heather’s musical journey goes from
New York City to Tucson, Arizona where she and her duo are regular features
with the Tucson Jazz Festival and regional events.

Tickets are $22 members, $24 general audience, and kids under 18 are free

Nearly 500 Western Nevada College students have earned exemplary academic honors by being named to the Fall 2023 Dean’s List.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is accepting applications for the position of Justice of the Peace / Municipal Court Judge for Department 2. This application process is to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Kristin Luis to the First Judicial District Court, Department 2.

Carson High School’s Senior in the Spotlight this week is Malia (Mia) Alvarado. Mia is an amazing student and has attended CHS for all four years, earning an Academic letter. She has taken Honors level classes and is actively involved in the Early Childhood Education Program.

UPDATE 7:54PM: Three people were evaluated at the scene of the single vehicle crash. There were no serious injuries and no transport to the hospital was needed, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Mason.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and Nevada State Police Highway Patrol division were called Thursday night to a vehicle crash in the area of Highway 50 East and Deer Run Road.

The Heavenly Gondola is closed indefinitely due to a mechanical issue. Operations were shut down after the gondola maintenance team worked with the lift manufacturer and project engineer to diagnose the problem, which is related to one of the bearings in the high-speed shaft.

RENO — The U.S. Marshals are alerting the public of several imposter scams involving individuals claiming to be U.S. marshals, court officers, or other law enforcement officials.

The Alzheimer's Association will provide an Alzheimer's Awareness Education Program on Thursday, January 18th at 2:30 pm at the Carson Valley Adult Day Club. The Day Club is located within the Douglas County Community Center at 1329 Waterloo Lane in

Topics include the impact of Alzheimer’s, myths and facts, risk factors, the 10 warning signs and how others can join the fight against the disease.

Judge Tom Armstrong seeks re-election to Department I of the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court. Judge Armstrong was elected to the bench in 2012 and 2018, after he was appointed to fill the position by the Carson City Board of Supervisors in May of 2011, selected from a number of applicants.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office has arrested a man for allegedly committing two armed robberies on New Year's Day.

A 42-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing a construction skid steer vehicle, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers in conjunction with Partnership Carson City conducted an alcohol compliance check Dec. 28, 2023. This was conducted with the support of three volunteers ranging from 16 to 18 years old. They were sent to local businesses that sell alcohol in an attempt to purchase alcohol.

Plumas Bank, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Plumas Bancorp, announced a donation of $15,000 to assist in a project by Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, in Carson City. A 31-year-old Reno man was arrested Tuesday for suspected commercial burglary after allegedly throwing rocks into a business and stealing paper towels, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Perhaps not unlike you, I never took a hankering to algebra. In fact, I was told by an upperclassman that were I to live to be 100, I would never use it. But I did. When I wanted to know how many miles-per-hour I would have to run to finish the Boston Marathon in under three hours I used an algebraic equation to figure it out, 180 minutes/26 miles = X/1. By solving for X, I was able finish that race in under three hours, barely.

Retired Carson City DARE officer Lisa Davis, who is now living in Oregon, suffered a brain aneurysm Wednesday Dec. 27 and is hospitalized in critical condition following two surgeries, according to family members.

Attention musicians! The Carson City Symphony will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 6:20 to 8:30 p.m., for its third concert of its 40th season, which is on Feb. 18. Most rehearsals are on Wednesday nights at the Carson High School orchestra room, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

UPDATE 2:42PM: Carson City emergency crews were called Tuesday afternoon to a second crash at the same intersection of William and Roop streets. The second crash happened around two hours after the first crash.

The second crash was reported at around 2:40 p.m. One person was injured and taken to the hospital by ground ambulance. The crash is blocking the intersection. Motorists can expect delays and should use another route.
