First dandelions

A few things that show spring has arrived. Yellow headed black birds at the golf course, tulips and dandelions in my yard and dwarf hyacinths everywhere all show that spring has arrived around Carson City.

I received a question from a reader in the Virginia City Highlands. Some of her trees are turning brown along with oozing lots of sap. A small tree died and she has noticed some signs of beetle boring.

The sheep are back in Carson City! We are working with two separate groups of sheep - one is grazing behind Greenhouse Garden Center, and the other is currently behind Western Nevada College, between Ash Canyon and Timberline.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners passed a proposed reopening plan on Thursday, April 15, 2021. The next step is submitting the plan to the Nevada COVID Task Force, where it is scheduled to be reviewed on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

Drop-In Medical is a mobile dental van serving Northern Nevada

The Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Bridgeport Ranger District will officially closed for the season on Monday, April 19. Carson City School District is announcing updates to its Spectator Policy for high school Spring athletic contests.

The biggest change to the policy allows for visiting fans to attend as spectators. All spectators will be admitted to sporting events on a first-come first-served basis.

A 35-year-old Dayton woman and a 35-year-old Dayton man were arrested in the area of College Parkway and Roop for three felony counts of child neglect and endangerment, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, Christina Leanna Leon and Jaime Enrique Leon were arrested by Special Enforcement Team (SET) deputies after driving with expired temporary paper registration tags on their vehicle.

Senior student, Angelina Marino has been enrolled at Pioneer High School for nearly four years as a full time online student. The online format has given Angelina the opportunity to complete her classes on her schedule which helped give her greater motivation to be successful.

A vehicle accident was reported just before 11 a.m. on Friday morning in the area of Highway 50 E. towards Dayton.

Traffic is blocked by the vehicles in the westbound lanes.

The Grass is Always Greener: Leah Withrow and Her Journey to Becoming the Only Female Head Groundskeeper in Minor League Baseball

Women in the sports industry are far and inbetween, including those who go pro in their respective sports, those who manage these sports, and in Leah Withrow’s case, those who look after an entire baseball field and its upkeep.

In 2020, Withrow became the only female Head Groundskeeper in Minor League Baseball, being promoted to the position for the Reno Aces, a Triple-A affiliate team of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

RENO — A new federal law that took effect this month requires boat operators to wear an engine cut-off switch when operating a boat on federal waterways such as Lake Mead and Lake Tahoe. The law should not be much of a change for Nevada boaters as the state has mandated use of the ECOS since 2007.
