Kit Carson Toastmasters will hold a humorous speech contest amongst members on Tuesday September 7th. The event will be conducted at Grandma Hattie’s Restaurant, 2811 South Carson Street, Carson City, beginning at 6:30am. This is a free event and the public is welcome to attend. The winner will be chosen from Kit Carson Toastmasters members and will go on to the Area 22 contest in Carson City on September 18th. Fred Daniels will be the contest chair and Tim Mueller will be the chief judge.

Jazz Carson City 2010 will wind up this weekend with a Friday night appetizer followed by a Saturday and Sunday blowout.

A robbery at the Mutual of Omaha bank on North Carson Street in Carson City this afternoon has authorities searching for the suspect, described as wearing a red AC/DC t-shirt and jeans.

The robbery happened at about 12:35 this afternoon, at the bank, located at 1101 North Carson Street. No weapons were seen. The suspect has been described as a white male, approximately 30 years old, wearing blue jeans, a red shirt with AC/DC on it, and a black ball cap.

A Carson City man, who may have been involved in a gang-related shooting last week, faces drug and weapons charges after a search of his home on Thursday night.

Carson City leaders agreed this morning to apply for a $240,000 HUD grant that would help in preliminary design work for narrowing Carson Street between John and Stewart streets from four to two lanes.

If the city were to get the grant, it would have to kick down about $60,000 in matching grants which would come from the city's redevelopment agency and the regional transportation commission. Money for the matching grants would be available because it has already been set aside in their budgets.

One person who may have suffered life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle accident tonight at Highway 50 and Empire Ranch is being transported by Care Flight air ambulance.

The accident, which happened at about 8:30 tonight, was reportedly a t-bone collision. One person may have suffered neck injuries. The other driver reportedly declined medical attention, according to dispatchers.

Southwest Airlines will add a second daily non-stop flight to Denver beginning Feb. 13, Reno-Tahoe International Airport officials announced today.

A Carson City man faces felony domestic battery charges after he allegedly punched and kicked his girlfriend in the head and teeth, causing a possible skull fracture.

Chad Russell Hunter, 40, is being held on $45,132 bail. He was arrested on Tuesday at around 8:30 p.m. at the Warren Inn.

Tonight the featured performer is Barbara Baxter. She will perform jazz, standards and blues. Her backup includes Peter Supersano on keyboard and Phil Jerome on bass.

Around 30 representatives from law enforcement, emergency management and the Carson City Health and Human Services Office conducted a test run today of its portable emergency facility designed for health emergencies such as mass casualty disasters.

The 20 foot by 40 foot inflatable facility, which would serve as a temporary morgue, underwent the test to activate an HVAC cooling system, said Pam Graber, public information officer for the Carson City Health and Human Services Office.
