"'Oklahoma!" is the Rogers & Hammerstein classic that changed the face of American musical theater. It will be performed by the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company under the direction of Stephanie Arrigotti at the Carson City Community Center. Show times for the Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. on May 6-7 and May 13-14. There will be two matinée performances beginning at 2 p.m. on May 8 and May 15.

Strong gusty winds will continue through today and into tonight, prompting a wind advisory for the region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno and CarsonWeather.com.
A number of wind-related calls to Carson City dispatch have surfaced today including fences being blown over, downed tree limbs and cable television lines. CarsonWeather.com reports a wind gust of 55 mph today at 4:03 p.m. as being the highest recorded thus far.

North Platte, Nebraska is just west of the North Platte and South Platte rivers confluence forming the Platte. North Platte was formed in 1866 with the construction of the continental railroad. In 1941 the population was 12,000.
A couple of weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the women of North Platte heard a troop train with Nebraska National Guard troops would be passing through town. Several of the women decided to bake cookies to give to “our boys” when the train stopped for 10 minutes.

With warm temperatures ahead this week, Lyon County has initiated preparations for possible flooding on the Walker and Carson rivers.
Lyon County Emergency Management recommends those with homes in low lying areas along both the Carson and Walker rivers take necessary precautions to prepare for possible moderate to major flooding in the coming weeks, according to the county's website.

The movie "Red Riding Hood," currently showing at the Casino Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City, makes s couple of nods to the fairy tale story but goes into more violent and wayward actions.
In a way, this is a ludicrous film, with Amanda Seyfried as Valerie (Red Riding hood), who certainly has the wide-eyed look of a naive young lady (not as a young girl, need a little more sex than a girl could offer) and in one scene almost becomes engaged in a bit of sex.

Our guest speaker this month is Tammy Westergard Deputy Director of Carson City Public Library. Tammy Westergard is an active Carson City leader, volunteer and professional. After four years with the Carson City Office of Business Development as well as serving on the library's Foundation board, in 2010 she became the Deputy Director of Carson City Public Library. UPDATED 3:40PM: Carson City authorities and the Nevada Highway Patrol have responded to an accident in the 3500 block of Highway 50 east that happened at 9:13 this morning where four parked vehicles were hit by a motorist.
The motorist was reportedly in cardiac arrest when police arrived and was transported to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. NHP is investigating as to whether the man, described as elderly, had a medical condition which may have caused the accident.

CARSON CITY – Legislators were asked yesterday to imagine an odor so rancid and vile that it requires evacuating the Legislature.
“You would not be able to work in this building,” Donna German, who lives near Fallon, told legislators at a Senate committee.
That is the type of stench residents near Fallon say they have lived with for years.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Student Alliance has declared that it will not support fee increases at state colleges and universities.
The NSA, the association of student body presidents and the student advocacy arm of the Nevada System of Higher Education, has taken a stance that opposes not only Gov. - Utility work will occur on Division Street between Robinson Street and Caroline Street on Wednesday, March 30, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be single lane closures with flaggers.
- Pothole patching will occur on Bigelow Drive south of Snyder Avenue and on Conte Drive. Minor delays are possible.
- Clearview Drive is closed between Edmonds Drive and Line Drive for construction on the next phase of the NDOT freeway project. Detours are marked. The road is expected to reopen by November of 2011.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has updated its hours effective April 4, and with the change includes closing the front office on Tuesdays, officials announced in a press statement today.
Front counter services exist for customers to submit permit applications and get project and property information. The updated schedule reflects the Agency's commitment to customer service following a recent reorganization and staff reduction, the statement said.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports the following regarding a patrol car that was hit in a Carson City traffic accident on Thursday night. A Carson City deputy was also injured in a second accident.
At about 8:09 Thursday night a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper drove up to a single vehicle accident in the southbound lane on Highway 395 at the off-ramp to Carson Street. The accident involved a red Oldsmobile driven by a Carson City resident, reports Trooper Dan Lopez.

A Carson City man is being held on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after he allegedly smashed a beer glass over the head of a friend during an argument which reportedly caused serious facial injuries.
Christopher Lash, 27, faces the felony charge after the victim reportedly suffered nerve damage to his face from the assault. He is being held on $30,000 bail.

CARSON CITY – Ask people living near the strip in Las Vegas who their state senator is and, if they know, they might say Sen. Mark Manendo or Sen. David Parks.
They would both be right on both counts. Parks and Manendo represent one of the state’s two dual districts, which each have two senators.
They are a relic from a past era, and Parks says there is a “strong likelihood” they will soon be a thing of the past.
