With the final stretch approaching until the November 6 election, Carson City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover reminds voters of some important pieces of information to remember. The last day to register to vote is 5 p.m. Oct. 6. Voters can registered at the Clerk-Recorders office, 885 E. Musser Street, Suite 1025.
Voters who visit the Carson City Clerk-Recorders Office in person with a photo ID and proof of residency have until Oct. 16. Statewide early voting begins Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. through Friday, Nov. 2.

CARSON CITY – Statewide taxable sales totaled $3.55 billion in July, a 4.7 percent increase over July 2011 for the 25th consecutive month of increases, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Clark County taxable sales were up 5.4 percent, while Washoe County saw a 5.6 percent gain over July 2011.

Ten of Nevada’s seventeen counties recorded an increase in taxable sales for July 2012 compared to July 2011. Eureka, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, Storey, and White Pine counties recorded decreases.

Pyramid Lake, located about 30 miles north of Sparks, will open on Monday, Oct. 1, to fishing for Lahontan cutthroat trout.
That large, desert lake (roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 1 to Sept. 30.

For 22 years Alana Ladd-Ross has been one of the most well-known faces with United Blood Services. On Wednesday she officially retired and was sent out in style with a party in her honor.
In between laughter and tears, employees and friends lined up one-by-one to pledge their appreciation and allegiance to Alana, the donor recruitment and community relations supervisor for United Blood Services of Carson City, whom many say was the driving force and life blood behind the operation.

A 71-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail on Sept. 24 on a warrant stemming from two charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Francis John Belongia, was arrested in the 4000 block of Stampede Drive without incident. Bail was set at $20,000.
In other felony-related arrests:
— A Dayton woman faces a felony charge of fraudulent use of a credit card or debit card without consent. Cynthia Marie Shelley, 31, was arrested Sept. 26. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street. She was arrested following a felony warrant issued by the Carson City Justice Court. Bail was set at $7,500.

Two commercial burglaries early Monday morning in Douglas County have authorities asking the public for help in identifying the suspects with photos provided by surveillance cameras.
The first burglary occurred at the Verizon Wireless Outlet Store on Waterloo Ln sometime around 5 am, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey. Entry was made by the suspect smashing the glass of the exterior window of the store. Two cellular telephones, phone chargers and miscellaneous currency were stolen from inside. CARSON CITY – U.S. Sen. Dean Heller today said online gaming legislation critical to the future of Nevada’s economy should be removed from the world of politics so partisan fights don’t “poison the water” for the bill’s future in Congress.

Heller, interviewed on the Nevada NewsMakers television program, said the legislation is too important to be subjected to political fights between himself and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid between now and the Nov. 6 general election.

Carson City authorities kept busy this weekend responding to a number of misdemeanor domestic violence calls. Several arrests were made.
A 42-year-old cook was arrested after allegedly pushing his wife and 12-year-old daughter because they were "nagging" him. According to the police report, instead of assaulting the woman and daughter further, the man went outside the home, punched a glass window instead with his forearm causing a laceration that required medical attention. The incident happened on Sept. 23 in the 400 block of Lee Street. The man was being held on $3,000 bail.

Carson City firefighters arrived at a structure fire at 611 Telegraph at about 6:45 p.m. on Monday night. Located between Anderson and Walsh streets, the commercial-residential building was unoccupied at the time and construction work on the foundation appeared to have been ongoing with renovations and work being done on the inside.

A Sacramento woman faces felony burglary, fraud and drug charges after she attempted to cash stolen checks using fake IDs inside a Carson City casino.
Dana Hale, 42, was booked into Carson City jail on Sept. 20 after casino security guards notified authorities that the woman had attempted to cash the checks using false identification cards.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports investigating 65 crashes associated with the 2012 Street Vibration motorcycle rally which had riders attending events between Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.
There were no fatalities associated with the annual motorcycle rally, according to NHP. Reno police however, were investigating a Sunday morning fatal crash on Plumb Lane.

The Carson City Library and Nevada Legal Services have teamed together to provide free legal education clinics and workshops every fourthThursday of each month. The next one will be on Thursday, Sept. 27. Each workshop provides general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public will also be available. The clinic runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Following the education clinic a workshop will be held from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. This month’s topic: How to Seal Criminal Records.

Here is the Carson City road construction report through Sunday, Sept. 30. The westbound lane on Northridge Drive will be closed between Roop Street and New Ridge Drive. A detour will be provided for westbound traffic needing to access Roop Street. There will be traffic control on Roop Street from Hot Springs Road to Winnie Lane due to the construction of bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Minor delays are possible.

There will be a possible lane closures on Roop Street between John Street and Corbett Street due to utility work. Traffic control will be in place as needed.

Reggae fans are in for a rare treat. European Roots Reggae artist Martin Zobel and his band Soulrise will perform at Carson City’s Club Envy on Friday September 28th. Born and raised in Germany, Zobel is a popular and integral part of the European Reggae scene. His latest album, Land of the Free, is the result of a month long collaboration with Reggae legend Fully Fullwood. The album went straight to the top of the German Reggae charts. It was just released in the United States and now Zobel and his band Soulrise are embarking on their first US tour.

Carson City, Nevada – The Fall 2012 40 Days for Life campaign in Carson City starts with a kickoff rally on the sidewalk across from Planned Parenthood at 1201 North Stewart Street on Wednesday, September 26 at 6 PM, as the pro-life community prepares to pray and fast for an end to abortion. The fall effort also includes a “Youth for Life” rally on Saturday, October 20 and a closing prayer ceremony on Saturday, November 3, both also across from Planned Parenthood.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval’s trade mission to the People’s Republic of China has announced two business agreements for companies located in Northern and Southern Nevada. A collaborative research agreement with the Desert Research Institute (DRI) was also expanded.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Carson City School District has increased enrollment after steadily dropping since 2003. The district reported 7,635 students showed up for school Friday — the official count day for the state of Nevada — up 41 from last year's count.

The Carter Springs Fire in Douglas County is estimated to have grown to approx 3,000 acres. A perimeter has been established, and the fire is now burning unburned fuels within the perimeter, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The fire is estimated to be 30 percent contained; with full containment expected by Sept. 25.
Highway 395 has reopened with no controls in both directions. Motorists are requested to slow down while traveling through the area, and watch for emergency vehicles accessing the area.
