A Carson City man was arrested Thursday on a domestic violence charge and a related felony charge after he allegedly prevented the victim, a family member, from calling 911.
Jeremy David Smith, 19, was placed into custody at 11:52 p.m. in the 4600 block of Oak Street.

A High Wind warning for the region has prompted the Carson City Sheriff's Office to increase patrol this weekend in preparation of the arriving storm system.

Because winds are expected to reach 70 to 80 mph from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, the potential exists for downed power lines, trees, large branches and other blowing debris, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews may resume prescribed fires in several locations around the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Prescribed fires are planned in the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89 S near South Lake Tahoe, on the west side of Highway 89 N near Tahoma, and in Slaughterhouse Canyon on Lake Tahoe’s East Shore. Prescribed fire crews may continue operations through the weekend, weather, staffing, and conditions permitting. Locations may vary due to changing conditions.

At the Lyon County Commission meeting January 2, the commissioners voted 4-1 to grant a request from Comstock Mining Inc., to modify the county Master Plan and change the zoning, which would allow pit mining in and adjacent to Silver City.

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested two on felony drug charges Tuesday following a traffic stop on North Roop Street in which one of the suspects fled and was later caught.

Arrested were Michael Jonathan Lang, 20, of Sparks and Jacob Lee Stephenson, 20 of Reno. Approximately 120 grams of marijuana was found inside the vehicle after a search.

Lake Tahoe, CA/NV - The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has launched an online marketplace for property owners, realtors and land banks to use to increase the environmental improvements that come from transferring commonly-traded development rights in the Lake Tahoe region.

The new, online Transfer of Development Rights Exchange allows buyers and sellers to create postings, explains transfer incentives and eligibility requirements, and makes it all viewable on an interactive map. As the TDR Exchange is used more, it will also track market trends.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The story behind the giant footprints found at Nevada State Prison will be told Feb. 20 by paleontologist Gene Hattori.

Hattori, curator of anthropology and state paleontologist at Nevada State Museum, will be the featured speaker in the third lecture of a Nevada Sesquicentennial series sponsored by the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society.
His talk, “Fossils at Nevada State Prison,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Silver Oak Executive Conference Center, 1251 Country Club Drive, Carson City. It is free and open to the public.

Carson City sheriff's deputies have made several alcohol-related arrests since Monday. A 50-year-old Galt, Calif., man was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, having an open container and not having a valid driver's license, all misdemeanors.

The man was reported by a witness to be passed out in his vehicle for more than an hour at a gas station in the 1600 block of East Fifth Street. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies arrived and found the man sleeping with the vehicle running and the lights on, according to the arrest report.

Three Carson City Jail inmates were booked Monday on felony charges of burglary and grand larceny following an investigation into the theft of three computers stolen from Walmart on Jan. 21, 2014.

The men arrested are Joseph Larson, 24 of Dayton, Michael Harrell and John Kramer, both 20. Each face bail amounts of $30,000.

Game wardens are seeking information on two mule deer does and one fawn that were shot and left near the Cold Creek community, about six miles from the High Desert Correctional Facility sometime in the early morning of January 25. Operation Game Thief is offering a $1,000 reward to help catch the poacher.
