Carson City Library takes summer reading underwater with the “Oceans of Possibilities” summer reading challenge, starting Saturday, June 11 through Aug. 6, 2022.

As the library transforms into an underwater reading haven with coral reefs, Orca and blue whales and manta rays swimming overhead, library officials challenge the community to read a cumulative total of 400,000 minutes throughout the challenge weeks.

Those with digital over-the-air channels associated with KOLO Channel 8 have begun to see some service restored following outages that happened over the weekend. KOLO noted on its website that its 8.1 signal has been restored and it is working on restoring its remaining digital channels.

UPDATE 2:41PM: The two injured Nevada Department of Transportation employees who were struck by a pickup Tuesday afternoon on US-395 north of Topsy Lane were part of a surveying crew and were not in the roadway at the time of the crash, according to Nevada State Police. Their conditions are unknown at this time. The highway is open. Impairment is not suspected at this time, said Trooper Charles Caster.

Douglas County and Carson City emergency crews responded Tuesday afternoon to Topsy Lane and Highway 395 for a vehicle crash that involved two NDOT employees who were reportedly struck by a vehicle.

On June 1, the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department announced they would be closing the Waterfall trail to dogs effective immediately.

A 41-year-old man was arrested Sunday morning for suspicion of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, gross misdemeanor intimidating a peace officer, and eight lesser offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

With early detection critically important to fighting against breast cancer, Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan will return to Carson City this Tuesday through Friday offering affordable mammography screenings.

The signs they are a changing. At least that’s the case at the Nashville Social Club, the soon to be opened Nashville-style food and music venue in Carson City. As the new exterior signs went up these past few weeks, so did the buzz about what’s to come. Inside the building big changes are taking place, like kitchen upgrades, a major transformation of the lounge/dining room and the building of the main stage.

On May 28th Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 joined other veterans organizations to place flags on the graves of veterans from all services at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.

Cooler weather led to a big turnout of volunteers. Additional veterans' events by the Elks is a breakfast on the second Monday of every month and an annual veterans dinner, free to all veterans, on Veterans Day in November.

The vacant chair at each lodge is a symbol of our motto: ‘As long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them'.
