The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that the new school year starts on Monday, August 19, 2024. Our School Resource Officers and Traffic Units will be teaming up to monitor and enforce all school zone laws for this school calendar year.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation, & Open Space Department seeks public input, especially from the local sports community, regarding the city’s sports fields.

On Thursday, eight Carson City youth graduated from a ten-week wilderness program designed for minors who have been court ordered on probation and into the program.

According to Ali Banister, Chief of Juvenile Services in Carson City, the participants embarked on a “transformative ten-week adventure,” which totaled over 300 hours of “intense learning and personal growth.”

On Saturday, August 24, from 10 to 11 a.m., Glen Whorton of the Nevada State Historic Prison Preservation Society, will speak on “The Great and Not So Great Escapes.”

Each year, the Town of Gardnerville collects more than 450 tons of green waste from its residents. The green-waste program started in 2000 as a free service to Town residents as the Town was able to dispose of its green waste at Bently Ranch free of charge.

On Saturday, August 10, CBP Aerial Arts, an authentic and professional aerial arts studio in Gardnerville, presented its 2024 Annual Production, The Lion King, at the Carson City Community Theater, Bob Boldrick Theater.

The speaker at the August 19th Democratic luncheon will be Michelle Pedersen, candidate for Carson City School Board of Trustees, District 7.

Friends of the Nevada State Museum are pleased to announce the reprinting of a historic Nevada State Museum cookbook. This was possible thanks to the assistance of staffs from Nevada State Library and Archives in Carson City and the State Print Shop.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on The Board of Appeals in the following categories, each for a two (2) year term:

• General Contractor
• Registered Architect
• Civil/Structure Engineer
• Electrical Engineer
• Mechanical Engineer

Applicants should be aware this Board may require a minimum commitment of up to five hours a month. This Board provides advice on matters involving the building codes and the fire codes in Carson City. All members will serve without compensation.

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, Capitol City Gun Club in Carson City, NV will host a “Dove Season Tune-Up” Three Shot Sporting Clays Shoot with pump and semi-automatic shotgun classes. Registration begins at 9:00am with a $50 entry fee per shooter per class. Shooting begins at 10:00am and goes until 4:30pm. According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) July 2024 economic report, Nevada’s unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 5.4 percent and the state saw a decrease of 1,500 nonfarm jobs.

The Kid’s Monster Lab is for any youngins ages six through thirteen interested in bringing their imagination to life: in this three-week, six-session class, participants will dream up creatures, critters, and monsters to create with their art, their colors, then finally clay and paint. Classes are led by instructor, Kaleb Wyckoff.

More than 565 apprehensive but excited freshman from the Class of 2028 joined the ranks of Carson High School Tuesday in an orientation lead by administrators and school leadership teams.

The new students joined the Senator ranks of more than 585 sophomores, 570 juniors and 536 seniors.
