Law enforcement agencies prepare for upcoming unauthorized car event at Lake Tahoe

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department, in partnership with the California Highway Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, El Dorado County Sheriff's Department, Nevada State Police, and the U.S Forest Service Law Enforcement branch will be out in force August 21 through August 25, in response to the unauthorized car event called Lake2O.
The City of South Lake Tahoe issued a press release, stating the safety of all residents and visitors is important to them.
"We will be focused on extra enforcement of any violations related to unsafe driving and/or unauthorized vehicle equipment throughout the weekend. The City does not permit or authorize any Lake20 events within the city," the City said in their statement.
In addition, the City will be closing parking lots at Reagan Beach starting at 7 p.m. along with the trailer parking area near Lakeview Commons during all days of the event. Message boards will also be posted in these areas with information regarding the closures.
Lake2O is a car event organized in the Sacramento area, with hundreds of cars coming to South Lake Tahoe since 2020. It is an unauthorized event, and law enforcement has been kept busy each year to keep the community and visitors safe, without having large car events with revving, burnouts, and high-speed driving at various locations on the South Shore.
As in past years, each agency will have special details to address traffic concerns in their respective jurisdictions. They will be looking for traffic violations including speeding, reckless driving, and various equipment violations.
