Former Western Nevada College star Lance Ray is doing everything he can to help the University of Kentucky baseball team make the postseason.

RENO -- A long time has passed since the Carson High softball program reigned as a state champion in 1994 and won four successive zone tournament championships between 1995 and '98. And while the Senators still have a way to go before they return to that level, they are at least knocking on the door after splitting two games at the Northern 4A Regional Tournament on Friday afternoon.

A female driver and passenger were unhurt when their grey Infinity jumped a curb and hit the side of IHOP on South Carson Street at about 4:30 this afternoon.
The car suffered some damage but there was no real structural damage to the building, according to those on scene.
Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Cullen said the driver and passenger were unhurt.
Witnesses Savannah Graeber and Shelby Brown said they heard a loud squeak sound as the car bounced up on the curb, hitting the building.

A 24-year-old Carson City man faces multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon in a road rage incident where the victim was allegedly assaulted with a crutch.
On Thursday at about 4 p.m. the suspect, John Delvecchio, was allegedly driving in an aggressive manner in an unregistered Cadillac, tailgating, honking his horn, cursing and attempting to run the victim off the road several times between the Douglas County Sheriff's Office building in Gardnerville and the Carson City limits, according to the arrest report.

CARSON CITY — A 14-year-old Carson City girl who was taking a break from "The Sound of Music" rehearsals Thursday night at the Carson City Community Center, said she pushed away a man who "came out of nowhere" and jumped on top of her as stunned friends watched.

"I was kind of freaked out," the 14-year-old victim told Carson Now late Thursday night. "I just held my breath and pushed him off of me."

The unidentified man, who had led authorities on a car chase through town, was detained shortly after the attack by Carson City deputies. The incident began at about 8:30 p.m.

College of Southern Nevada scored four runs in the first two innings and went on to a 5-1 opening round victory against Western Nevada College in the Region 18 Softball Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Salt Lake City.

A man attempted to elude authorities tonight, driving his vehicle onto the lawn area of the Carson City Community Center, running through the building and then jumping on top of a 14-year-old girl before being detained by deputies.

The event happened at 8:32 p.m. when a justice court officer spotted the man driving erratically down Carson Street, nearly hitting a motorcyclist. The man was traveling at a high rate of speed and didn't stop, said Sgt. Mike Cullen.

Carson City Health and Human Services is recruiting additional volunteers for the Carson City Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) with a informational reception on Tuesday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Artisan Cafe inside the Brewery Arts Center. Medical as well as non-medical volunteers are needed. In case of a local emergency such as flood, fire or disease outbreak, response teams are necessary to assist local fire, sheriff, and medical personnel. By becoming a member of the MRC, volunteers are vetted and trained in advance to assist when help is needed.

A Clark County District Court jury last Friday ordered Teva Pharmaceutical Industries and Baxter Healthcare Services to pay a combined $500 million in punitive damages to a Nevada man who contracted Hepatitis C during an outbreak two years ago.
The jury award was the largest in Nevada history.
In a statement issued shortly after the jury reached its decision, Teva said it planned to contest the verdict.  A spokesman for Baxter later confirmed the company will also most likely appeal.

A 40-year-old transient was arrested early this morning on a felony charge of being a fugitive from justice.
Joel David Germain was picked up by Carson City sheriff's deputies at about 2 a.m., when officers were looking for a separate subject who had threatened suicide in the 500 block of East Long Street.
According to the arrest report, a deputy went to the apartment to check on the welfare of the suicidal subject and an attempt to locate pills possibly used in the suicide attempt.

"Athlete-speak" calls for all players to shrug off so-called snubs. But athletes are human beings, too, and the Western Nevada College baseball team may have some extra motivation going into Thursday's game against Salt Lake Community College.

MINDEN -- They took different routes on Wednesday, but at the end of the day, the stage was set for a showdown between the Galena Grizzlies and Reno Huskies at the Northern 4A Regional Baseball Tournament.

Food for Thought, a program that helps feed homeless children in the Carson City region, will hold a fundraiser, Coconuts for Kids, on May 22 at the Governor's Mansion from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Hawaiian-themed fundraiser will have hula dancers, authentic island food and an auction. All are welcome to the event.

At the Carson Nugget Redevelopment Advisory Committee meeting last night, it was revealed that the developers are negotiating with the Gaming Control Board, Public Utilities Commission and the Department of Health and Human Services about relocating to the planned downtown development.

A 34-year-old transient with a criminal history involving fraud was arrested by Carson City authorities after giving them a false name.
Helen Holguin, 34, faces felony charges of credit card fraud, breaking probation and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing. She is being held without bail at the Carson City Jail.
On May 10 at about 11:12 p.m. a vehicle was pulled over by a Carson City deputy on West Long and South Carson streets because it didn't have a license plate. According to the arrest report, the passenger in the car had acted suspicious, clutching a large purse.

Top seeds Reno and Galena advanced into the winners bracket during opening round play of the Northern 4A Regional Baseball Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

A committee designed to look at outsourcing Carson City School District's food service program has tentatively selected Aramark as a provider, district officials told board members tonight. Under terms of a possible contract, district food workers would not lose their jobs.
A contract between Aramark and the district could be presented to the school board by the end of the month.
Three proposals have been on the table, including food service companies Sodexo and Chartwells. The school district will begin a series of negotiations with Aramark to establish a contract.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons announced yesterday he is pursuing an initiative petition to subject labor negotiations between unions and local government entities to the open meeting law to give taxpayers access to the discussions.
Some Republican lawmakers welcomed the idea, saying the Democrat-controlled Legislature has been unwilling to consider such a proposal.
