CARSON CITY — Juraj “George” Sojka of Stateline, Nev., has joined the Nevada Division of Tourism, also known as Travel Nevada, as its new international market manager. On Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, at approximately 8:23 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a single vehicle versus a pedestrian on Interstate 80 at mile marker 4, in the Boomtown area.

A preliminary investigation shows a silver Nissan Pathfinder was traveling westbound on IR-80 in the far right travel lane. A pedestrian was standing on the westbound paved outside shoulder of IR-80.

Hello fellow anglers! We are just a few days away from the Topaz opener on January 1, 2020 after its closure three months ago to this date.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has planted 51,000 pounds of trout, which is approximately 17,800 individual trout.

As a note, the NDOW planted Eagle Lake, Triploid and the Tahoe strain as well. I would have to say, if you don't catch a fish on opening day. It might be time to look for a new sport. With all the trout in the lake with the additional poundage that has been added, fishing should be pretty good.

Nevada is one of 32 states to allow an individual to legally kill a bear. Nevada’s bear harvest is small in number when compared to other states like California with a limit of 1,700. The rancor over Nevada’s bear hunt is among the nation’s loudest and most bitter. It’s an ongoing fight replete with lawsuits, restraining orders and death threats. Perhaps more than any other issue, the brawling over Nevada’s bear hunt is a reflection of the changing nature of a state with one of the nation’s lowest percentages of rural residents and fastest growing urban populations.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office along with the Reno Police Department are investigating a potential connection between two recent burglary incidents in which two entire ATM machines were stolen from South Reno and Dayton.

According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Detective Lieutenant Jerry Pattinson, the two local law enforcement agencies are looking into a concrete connection between the two offenses, and yesterday the FBI was on scene in Dayton.

A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 1500 block of Appaloosa Ct. for DUI first and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage after allegedly losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a fence.

A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested at the hospital early Thursday morning for parole and probation violation and a Legal 2000 per the hospital.

The Carson City Historical Society Board held an emergency meeting on Dec. 21 to discuss the eminent demolition of Adele’s, and strategized on how this historic building could be preserved.

The board voted to pursue a fund raising campaign to work with the community to preserve the 155 year-old Adele’s building at 1112 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nev.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for information in a burglary that occurred at a residence on Carmine Street in Carson City on Oct. 4, 2019.

Sometime around 2 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, one or more individuals stole a trailer containing a piece of construction equipment from the lot of a construction company in Lyon County. They drove the trailer to the Greater Nevada Credit Union in Dayton where they used the construction equipment to rip an ATM machine from the ground, placing it on the trailer.

A surprise early visit from Santa Claus and his band of decked-out merry helpers brought beaming smiles and joy to dozens of capital city children and their families Christmas Eve, a tradition held for nearly 40 years by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Santa program.

Santa Claus is making his last stop today, Christmas Eve, at the V&T Railway in East Carson City. He will be inside the gift shop until 6:30 p.m. The V&T Railway is located at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Go here for directions and a map.
