CARSON CITY — The Nevada Housing Division’s Home Is Possible programs have helped 21,970 homebuyers realize the dream of homeownership in Nevada since the program launched in September 2014 through calendar year 2019. This number includes 1,497 veterans and active military personnel served by the HIP for Heroes program and 796 Nevada teachers through the HIP for Teachers program.

I turned my sprinklers on this past week. So did my gardening neighbor Roni. Her comment was “Ugh!” Mine was “On. Off. Drain. Repeat.” Turning drip systems and sprinklers on and off is tedious, but necessary. We haven’t had enough rain or snow to thoroughly soak the ground.

CARSON CITY — Initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled just over 10,500 in January, down 860 claims, or 7.6 percent compared to last January. Compared to December of 2019, initial claims fell by 12.3 percent, or 1,480 fewer claims, according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
