CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Board approved seven companies that will receive $53,112,166 in tax abatements. In return these companies are required to create 1,013 jobs in the next two years at an average weighted hourly wage of $28. That figure is expected to grow to 1,722 in five years.

Last week our antiquated irrigation system broke down again. We have maintained, adjusted, dug up, rebuilt and jerry-rigged this inherited system since 1988. I can’t remember how many timers, valves and sprinklers my husband (the brains of our irrigation repair team) has replaced, how many sprinklers and broken lines I have dug up, and how many poplar, ash and pine roots I have wrestled with through the years.

Don’t let the grumpy face fool you. Boots is sweet as sweet can be. A healthy 9-year-old boy, he was much loved by his owner Mary Phillips. Mary and her husband Doug owned and operated “Another Chance” kitty rescue in Dayton and were responsible for rescuing and finding new homes for thousands of kittens. Tragically, Mary passed away unexpectedly in December of 2020.

4-H, poultry, veterinary science, education

Dr. Vicky Fogelman will speak about her experiences as a local veterinarian and community health professional at the Carson City 4-H Community Club poultry project meeting this coming Tuesday, June 21.

The Martin Slough Multimodal Trail project is now complete. The general public can now fully access the trailhead as crews wrapped up construction over the past week.

The path connects to Minden’s new fishing pond located south of Buckeye Road.

UPDATE: Fire knocked down. Cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: One structure has been knocked down.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: A helicopter is also responding to tackle the blaze.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: All motorists, including residents, are being turned around at Jack's Valley Elementary School. Motorists are causing issues for emergency personnel.
