The Brewery Arts Center and Wild Horse Productions have announced a partnership that will welcome Wild Horse Productions as a resident company at the Brewery Arts Center.

While the BAC is open to other artists and arts organizations, as well as the general public for collaborations and to rent their facilities, a resident status may be offered to organizations who demonstrate sound business practices, financial strength, the ability to fill seats and, above all, artistic prowess. Both organizations will retain their independence and tax exempt, nonprofit status.

The Lake Tahoe Science Consortium collaborated with University of Nevada, Reno’s Department of Art to create “Visualizing Change,” a photographic art expedition intended to convey concepts in environmental restoration at Lake Tahoe to the scientific community and general public. The exhibit is located in the Prim Desert Research Library at Sierra Nevada College at Lake Tahoe’s Incline Village. It features photography and oil painting contributions from eight noted artists and is free and open to the public through July 27.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Stefen Davis, 19, a Carson City man, at 7 a.m. this morning. Davis was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs with substantial bodily harm, as well as misdemeanor allegations of possession of marijuana, minor consumption of alcohol, and due care. He is alleged to have struck a pedestrian, who was taken to the hospital with a severe neck injury. Bail has been set at $25,150 plus administrative fees.

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s Public Employees’ Retirement System earned an estimated 2.9 percent return on its investments in the fiscal year ending June 30, and is now valued at $25.8 billion, an official with the plan said today.

The 2012 return is below the 8 percent anticipated annual return for the system’s investments over the long term.

I am writing to you about the recent statement about the Nye Regional Medical Center closing it doors if they don't get some help from the County or State. I enclosing a letter that explains why the state or county should allow it to close. There is serious mismanagement that has been going on for the last 4 years. Even through its the only health care facility's within a 100 plus miles still as a employee of the hospital I have witness many wrong doings and the placing of key personnel in positions that they would never be able to hold in any other hospital or clinic.

The Carson City Democratic Women's Club monthly meeting will be held Saturday July 14, at Grandma Hatties. At noon, the featured speaker is Dennis Noone, Editor of the Nevada Appeal. There will also be a brief presentation from the Organization of America's Nevada Rural Coordinator concerning the start up of the Obama campaign. Carson City, NV, July 10, 2012: Karin Mracek, Communications Manager of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and graduate of the 2011 Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute, is the lucky winner of four tickets to a San Francisco Giants game. AUDITION WORKSHOP

      Wild Horse Children’s Theater is presenting an audition workshop to help prepare young people (ages 8 and up) to audition confidently anywhere by strengthening audition and performance technique for musical theater.  This is a great workshop if your child plans to audition for THE LITTLE MERMAID audition coming up in September.  The workshop will be held Tuesday, August 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

CARSON CITY – The House Ethics Committee announced today that it has established an investigative subcommittee to review ethics questions raised about Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., and whether she inappropriately furthered the business interests of her husband, Dr. Larry Lehrner.

The committee voted unanimously on June 29 to establish the subcommittee.

CARSON CITY – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced today that Nevada is among 40 states where people with Medicare can receive health care from an Accountable Care Organization (ACO).

ACOs are organizations formed by groups of doctors and other health care providers that have agreed to work together to coordinate care for people with Medicare.

There will be nightly lane closures on US 395 from the junction of US 50W (Spooner) to 1st Street in Minden, Sunday through Thursday, between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. There will be flagger controlled traffic.

There will be lane closures in the southbound direction of US 395 from Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe County to the Carson Street Interchange between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Saturday night’s racing program at Fernley 95A Speedway started off with every car present on track for a tribute to fallen racer Tommy Teters, who passed away recently. Teters’ sprint car took one last lap and the checkered flag.

Hot weather is in the forecast for Carson City this week with an expansion of high pressure that will build over the region through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Sunday's high temperature of 96.7 degrees is the warmest Carson City temperature recorded this year.

The Mile High Jazz Band with guest vocalist Pat Esters present an evening of "Big-band Jazz Under the Stars" at Comma Courtyard on Tuesday, July 10, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. The courtyard is adjacent to Comma Coffee, 312 S. Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest 2012 has announced the winners of its Show and Shine, held on June 30 in downtown Carson City. A great day was had by all – the weather cooperated – and people strolled among the beautiful vehicles and chatted with the owners and restorers. Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following individuals on felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Gregory Alan Pugh, 52, a Carson City man, just prior to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Pugh was arrested for three allegations of possession of a forged instrument and possession of a controlled substance (meth), as well as a gross misdemeanor allegation of possession of burglary tools, and the misdemeanor allegations of failure to register as an ex-felon and possession of a hypodermic device. Bail has been set at $51,150 plus administrative fees.
Once Upon a Mattress

On July 4, 2012, after 6 years as resident theater company at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, Wild Horse Children's Theater was evicted from the museum via an email letter with no discussions or negotiations of the eviction. WHCT was asked to remove all theater items out in 30 days without an exploration of how the museum and WHCT might work together to unwind from this 6 year relationship by offering storage space until something else was secured and/or letting WHCT continue at least until the end of the year with the programming that was scheduled at the museum.

Fire restrictions will go into effect in the Lake Tahoe Basin on Monday July 9. A Forest Order has been issued to provide for public safety through the end of the official 2012 fire season.
Campfires, including charcoal barbecues, are prohibited except in exempted recreation sites. Smoking on National Forest land is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or within an exempted recreation site. Fire restrictions are intended to reduce the possibility of human-caused wildfires over the summer season. (see PDF below.)

CARSON CITY – The deadline for a free, federal independent foreclosure review for Nevadans whose homes were in foreclosure in 2009 or 2010 has been extended to Sept. 30, 2012, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said today.

The previous deadline was July 31.

Dave Jenkins returns for his second performance at A Concert Under the Stars, a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, July 11 with his band, Pablo Cruise.
Jenkins performed four years ago for the inaugural event, which takes place at Café at Adele’s, but his love of music began at a tender age.
“My folks had an old pump organ and I couldn’t reach the pedals,” Jenkins said. “I’d play and my sister would pump the pedals for me; I always had an ear and a love for music.”

It is hard for us to believe but it is now over a month since Pookie's Playhouse opened it's doors in Carson City. Carson High class of '82 is celebrating their 30th reunion. July 13th will start off with a meet and greet at High Sierra Brewery beginning, at 6pm. On July 14th, golf has been set up at Silver Oak Golf Course with tee times beginning at 8:00 am. Dinner, with a live band will follow at that location beginning at 6:00 pm. CARSON CITY – Marcia Giller, 76, of Reno, has been sentenced to prison for two felony offenses of submitting false Medicaid claims, the Attorney General’s office announced this week.

Washoe County District Judge Steven Kosach sentenced Giller on Tuesday to 18 to 48 months imprisonment for each count, to be served consecutively, and additionally ordered Giller to pay $226,000 in restitution, penalties and costs.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies have arrested the following individuals for felony allegations:

  • Heidi Ann Brouhard, 22, a Carson City woman, just prior to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Brouhard was arrested for a felony larceny warrant in her name as well as a misdemeanor larceny warrant in her name. Bail is set at $20,000.
  • Devyn Lawrence Smith-Thompson, 18, a Reno man, at about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Smith-Thompson was arrested for grand larceny. Bail is set at $25,000.

“SMART PHONES, SMART PHOTOS”

CARSON CITY, NEVADA-Carson City Library will host Barry Smith, Executive Director of the Nevada Press Association, on Monday, July 23rd at 6:00 PM. Smith will present “Smart Phones, Smart Photos”, an informational program that will provide basic tips for taking photos with a smart phone. This program is geared toward novice users and will offer information about apps for editing photos, as well as storing and saving photos.
