Matthew was born and raised at South Shore and grew up loving skiing, snowboarding, hiking and all things outdoors. He was active in school sports, and had a great love for all animals. Matthew was in the process of following his dream by attending motorcycle mechanic school in Phoenix.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Barry and Nancy McMaster of Stateline, Nv, brother Tobias (Melanie) Sharp, and nephew Tyler Sharp, of South Lake Tahoe, and Grandmother Madeline Kerr of Carson City, Nevada.

Tonight is National Night Out at Mills Park, an event put on by the Carson City Sheriff's Office. This is the 10th anniversary of the event, and will feature lots of fun activities for children. The event runs from 5-8 p.m.

CARSON CITY – States do not face any deadline for deciding whether to expand their Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act, and will be able to expand coverage and then later chose to reduce it, federal officials told Governing magazine on Monday.

CARSON CITY – Nevada has been selected by the National Governors Association to receive a $65,000 grant and additional technical assistance to implement Common Core State Standards at the postsecondary education level.

CARSON CITY – With U.S. Sen. Harry Reid’s 5th annual National Clean Energy Summit set to kick off today in Las Vegas, the debate over alternative energy development and the government’s role in its future rages on.

South Lake Tahoe fire and police departments responded to a gas leak Monday night which forced the outside evacuation of at least a two block area of Highway 50 from Fairway to Herbert. Lakeland Village and Howard Johnsons guests were ordered to stay in their rooms as of 11 p.m. Areas outside the lodging establishments on both the east and west sides of Highway 50, (Lake Tahoe Boulevard) were evacuated, with guests being ordered to stay inside.

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested Donald Tremayne Britton, 38, a Carson City man, at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Britton was arrested on a fugitive from justice (murder) warrant in his name and extradited to Oakland by the Oakland Police Department Thursday. There is no bail.

Officers have also arrested the following individuals based on misdemeanor allegations:

  • A 28-year-old Carson City woman for a contempt of court warrant in her name.
  • A 51-year-old Carson City woman for a petit larceny warrant in her name.

A Gardnervile man has been arrested and faces charges in connection with several vehicle burglaries last month in the Indian Hills area in north Douglas County. A 15-year-old male was also arrested.
Nathan Centeno, 18, was arrested on Thursday by Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators. The arrest was made after an investigation following several vehicle burglaries that happened on July 10.

CARSON CITY – Democrats continued to outpace their Republican counterparts in voter registration efforts in July, the Secretary of State’s office reported this week.

Democrats registered 8,121 active voters, while Republicans registered 3,705 active voters. Active registered nonpartisans increased by 4,946 during the same time period.

I learned the answer to this question hanging beneath the canopy of a paraglider as it soared several hundred feet over the forested ridge that runs along the border between California and Nevada on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

First 40 Members Get Annual Dues Waived

On July 28th, thousands of people came to see close-up and personal the nearly completed I-580 Freeway. When finished, it will better connect Washoe Valley to South Reno, lighten the traffic through Pleasant Valley, and lessen the bottleneck that’s starting to form at the Mount Rose Intersection. Throngs of motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists attended Sunday’s Rush to Washoe event that began at 7:00 AM and went strong until 1PM.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval and a host of elected officials and dignitaries joined in dedicating the new I-580 freeway connecting the capital to Reno today, although motorists won’t get to drive on the 8.4-mile stretch of new roadway until mid-August.

CARSON CITY, NV – Governor Brian Sandoval today commended the work of the Nevada Sage-grouse Advisory Committee which issued recommendations yesterday on a course of action that provides conservation measures sufficient to preclude the need to list the Greater Sage-grouse under the Endangered Species Act.

“I thank the Advisory Committee, its Chairman, Bob Crowell and each of the members for their diligent and timely work on this very important issue,” Governor Sandoval said. “Representatives from a cross section of our state collaborated in an effort to conserve the Greater Sage-grouse species while maintaining predictable and multiple uses of private, state and public lands. I look forward to reviewing the Committee’s recommendations.”

Searchers hunting for missing Carson City doctor Gary Dankworth found the body of a man late Wednesday night during their search, confirmed a spokeswoman for the Inyo County Sheriff's Department.

Though the body has not been confirmed as that of Dankworth, KOLO8 is reporting that Carson-Tahoe Health issued the following statement:

“The Carson Tahoe family is saddened by the news of Dr. Dankworth’s death. The past several days have been difficult and we, like the rest of the community, have been hoping for the best. We are a small, close knit community and tragedies within our medical staff affect us all. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and we will do all we can to support them during this very sad time,” said Ed Epperson, President and CEO.

CARSON CITY – The state Board of Economic Development today unanimously signed off on a package of tax breaks to bring Apple to Reno, but the panel found it had little authority over the deal reached after several months of closed-door negotiations.

Coming from as far as Australia and as near as North Lake Tahoe, more than 200 men and women athletes are gearing up for a race to remember at Northern Nevada’s inaugural Expedition Man Endurance Festival and Ultra-Distance-Triathlon, taking place Saturday, August 25. Athletes will begin with a swim at Zephyr Cove Resort at Lake Tahoe, then onto a more than 100-mile-bike-ride through Carson City and a long-run along the Truckee River, ending at the Legends at Sparks Marina.
