Today's Nevada Appeal has a story about how a developer has been selected for the Carson Nugget downtown redevelopment project.

The story mentioned that the developer, P3 Development, built the $64 million Stockton Events Center while Mark Lewis was that city's manager.

But that understates the ties between Lewis and the developer. Looking at the projects listed on P3's website, a large part of their work seems to stem from the City of Stockton, and happened during Lewis' tenure.

Richard Shroy has made his decision. The Carson High senior, who has won individual state championships in both cross country and on the track, says he will move on to run for Washington State University.
There was no signing, just a handshake, when Shroy made the decision after visiting the Washington State campus in Pullman, Wash., on Sunday and Monday. Needless to say, the 14-hour drive back home to Carson City was enjoyable.
 
 

Former Western Nevada College star Lance Ray has been putting up big numbers throughout his college career and his performance has earned him a spot in the country's most prestigious summer amateur baseball league.
Ray, a junior at the University of Kentucky, has signed to play this summer with the Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League. Ray had a huge series this past weekend at Auburn to solidify his spot in the lineup for the Wildcats.

Dick Campagni threw a big party this evening as they officially cut the ribbon on his new dealership facility on South Carson Street. Champagne, appetizers and a string ensemble were on hand to liven up the festivities. Mayor Crowell and other city officials were on hand, with everyone hoping that the new dealership will help boost car sales, along with sales tax revenue.

Dayton Valley Golf and Country Club is temporarily closed and will re-open again in the near future, according to Rick Vaughan, head pro.

The Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and the site of the annual PGA Tour Qualifiers since 1995, is undergoing a change of ownership, Vaughan said in an e-mail.

Carson City and Lyon County officials will cut the ribbon May 22 to ceremonially launch new boating facilities for whitewater rafting and kayaking that have opened on the Carson River Aquatic Trail between Carson City and Dayton.

Carson City Public Works tech Jason Moore puts loose limbs into a wood chipper this morning on King Street. High winds overnight and early this morning of nearly 50 mph on the west side of town to more than 70 mph just outside the city limits blew lots of dead and dying tree limbs and debris to the ground, public works reported.

Carson City Sheriff's Office reports some calls were made to the department regarding downed trees. One large tree limb smashed into a fence and blocked part of the road at Ash Canyon and Ormsby. Public Works removed the debris earlier this morning.

RENO — U.S. Senate candidate Sue Lowden last week attended a meeting of the U.S. Nuclear Energy Foundation, an independent foundation that promotes the expansion of nuclear energy, listening to what its members have to say about nuclear power as well as the plight of the Yucca Mountain storage facility and its potential impact on Nevada.

CARSON CITY — An outbreak of Whooping Cough that recently took the lives of two California infants, both under the age of three months, should serve as a call to action, Carson City health officials said.

An alarming 219 cases of pertussis have been recorded in California so far this year, up dramatically from 118 cases during the same time frame last year.

CARSON CITY — State budget problems have forced the Nevada Department of Wildlife to temporarily suspend its boat title and registration services offered at the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Carson City.

CARSON CITY — An evacuation and sheltering exercise for the residents of the Old Clear Creek Road subdivision will be from noon to 4 p.m. on May 2, Carson City Fire Department officials announced today.

The evacuation drill in the southwest part of Carson City is being carried out in conjunction with Nevada’s 5th Annual Wildfire Awareness Week. The intention is to remind residents and homeowners that the area is within a wildland fire environment and therefore all are encouraged to protect their homes and community from embers that can attack dry brush and trees during a wildfire.

A couple arguing over the social networking site Facebook landed the pair in jail, each facing battery charges and one facing a child endangerment charge.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3500 block of Harrison on a domestic battery call. Dispatch advised officers the reporting victim was the 17-year-old daughter of a woman who was bleeding from the face.

When deputies arrived on April 22 they located the 38-year-old male suspect in the living room of the home. The couple are engaged and live together, according to the arrest report.

Ashley Hall hit a walkoff grand slam, her third home run of the game, to give the Western Nevada College softball team a 9-6 come-from-behind victory in its series finale against College of Southern Nevada on Saturday afternoon.

Leaving 18 runners stranded on the bases, even in an 11 inning game, is hardly part of a recipe to success for any softball team.

Nevada's senior senator spent time talking and taking pictures with the attendees before exhorting the partisan crowd to help him in his tough reelection campaign this year.

It won't show up in the box score or the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, however, the Western Nevada College softball team possibly turned in its best performance of the season on Friday despite losing both ends of a doubleheader against College of Southern Nevada.
