UPDATE 6:01 p.m.: The driver is now on I580 heading northbound towards Reno going in excess of 100 mph.

As of 5:55 p.m. westbound lanes of Highway 50 heading up Spooner are closed right now due to a car chase.

Numerous units from Carson City, Douglas and NHP are responding.

I-580 southbound has also been stopped to keep cross traffic from being involved.

As South Lake Tahoe students head back to the classroom on Monday, August 26, the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be enforcing current rules on cell phones during the school day.

Many school districts across the county, including nearby Carson City, have banned cell phone use during the school day for multiple reasons, most dealing with a lack of attention to learning, addiction, and bullying, and other mental health issues.

Last week, the Carson City Board of Supervisors discussed the future of Carson City’s ordinances pertaining to homelessness following a recent U.S. Supreme Court opinion allowing municipalities to enforce laws such as no camping on public property.

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, District Attorney Jason Woodbury and his office began researching what this could mean for Carson City and brought forward the discussion during the August 15 meeting.
