Free Jazz & Beyond Performance Friday moved to Brewery Arts Center due to windy conditions
Because of cold and windy conditions expected tonight (Friday, Aug. 23), Cherie and John Shipley's "Take This Band" performance has been moved to the Performance Hall (the old church building) at the Brewery Arts Center, 511 W. King St. The concert will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The event was scheduled to take place at the McFadden Plaza Stage. The event is free.
"Take This Band" is a jazz group with a funky edge, with Cherie Shipley on lead vocals. This band includes stellar musicians: John Shipley, popular jazz keyboardist, who also adds vocals; Nat Kline on sax and flute; Mike Kirkhouse on bass; and Tyler Pow on drums, who broadens the sound dramatically.
"Take This Band" covers classic jazz standards along with an eclectic repertoire of jazzy arranged material. Cherie has resilient and smooth alto vocals, harmonies, and vibrant stage presence. Her style is smooth but sassy, presenting a range of rhythms and jazz grooves.
Music Performance Trust Fund (MPTF) is a funding sponsor of this event, in cooperation with Reno Musicians Union Local 368 AFM and its President, John Shipley.
