According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, Sheriff's Office deputies have closed 2nd Street near Roop to investigate what appears to be a suspicious gas canister left on the corner.

Bomb investigation protocol is ongoing at this time and residents must stay away from the area.

A 32-year-old man from Dayton was pulled over and arrested on Thursday night in Carson City for his second DUI offense.

Empire Ranch Golf Course in east Carson City is currently flooded, and the course is closed until further notice.

“Due to excessive spring run-off and flood conditions, Empire Ranch Golf Course, Golf Shop, and Restaurant will be temporary closed,” a spokesperson for the course wrote. “We look to re-open with our best golf course conditions as soon as possible.”

MINDEN, NV – Based on direction from the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), Douglas County will be utilizing the remaining $719,000 of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funding to replace lost revenue in order to provide government services.

RENO, NV - Girls on the Run Sierras (GOTR-S) is partnering with Big Blue Adventure to host their annual Spring Season celebratory 5K on Saturday, June 10th at Palisades. The 5K event will take place at Palisades, located at 1960 Olympic Valley Road Olympic Valley, CA 96146.

GOTR-S is a 501c3 non-profit that was established in California in 2007 and Nevada in 2011. They are asking for volunteers to help run Girl Village (sponsored by Bank of America) or to be out helping on the course.

This past December, Haley Albarran opened the Messy Kids Art School in a little room in the Miller Wellness Center building on Telegraph St., but only a few months later, she had outgrown the space, and will now be expanding into the Carson Square building which houses the Carson City Visitor's Center and ReMax at the corner of Curry and Washington Streets in downtown Carson City.

Thirty-six employees who have worked a collective 766 years with the Carson City School District will retire this year. The retirees were recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, May 23.

A 38-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 2400 block of Meadowbrook Lane for domestic battery after allegedly punching her boyfriend repeatedly in the face after he punched her dog.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Sean Drive for a report of a physical domestic dispute. The boyfriend called deputies and advised he’d been punched multiple times in the face by his girlfriend.

The Nevada Outdoor Experience is a free youth outdoor expo with the goal of exciting and inspiring the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife conservationists.

A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly threatening a man with a gun at a birthday party.

According to the arrest report, Cameron Williams was arrested after deputies were dispatched to a local chain restaurant on S. Carson St. on report of a dispute.

Carson High School (CHS) is pleased to announce the formation of a joint Men's and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame that will induct its inaugural class in a ceremony October 14, 2023, planned at the banquet hall at the Governor's Mansion.

The Hall of Fame will be named in honor of Dick Stoddard, a former CHS basketball player who passed on October 20th, 1997, at the age of 25 after a 12-year battle with cancer.

Western Nevada College celebrated the achievements of its 2022-23 graduates on Monday, May 22 in Carson City and will again on Thursday, May 25 in Fallon.

Collectively, the two traditional ceremonies will honor 500 students who are approved to receive 529 degrees and Certificates of Achievement.

A 37-year old man was arrest Friday for suspicion of child abuse/neglect, possession of a controlled substance, a felony parole and probation warrant and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The results are in for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The generosity of the Carson City community resulted in almost 27,000 pounds of food collected in one day.

On Friday, May 26 and 7:30pm, Valhalla Tahoe at the Tallac Historic Site offers a Chautauqua presentation of Snowshoe Thompson and his wife Agnes in-Mailman of the Sierra. Thompson carried the mail across the Sierra Nevada snows for 20 winters.

While loading lumber into his truck at the hardware store, Carson City local, Kevin Leid, suddenly became short of breath and experienced blurred vision. That day in August 2020 changed his life and within five months, he needed oxygen tanks to breathe.

The opportunity to better himself through higher education has brought light to Aaron Ross’ world. Born legally blind, Ross began working toward a degree at Western Nevada College (WNC) more than a decade ago to pursue a profession that left an impression on him as a child.

Saturday afternoon I had the time of my life at the Odeon Hall in Dayton, Nevada. I got to present Mark Twain on the very stage where Samuel held forth 157 years ago, away back in 1866. He was fresh from the Hawaiian Islands and his public talk would have been full of fun from his, “Letters from the Sandwich Islands.” So of course we took a step back in time to savor a few of those timeless sentiments.

The Saturday, June 24 Downtown Throw Down Cornhole Tournament is presented by the Carson City Downtown Business Association and Silver State Cornhole.

Master Gardener Michael Janik is a fruit tree expert who advises this for fruit trees in May: “Thinning is an essential step in producing larger, tastier fruit and will also help prevent damage from insects. Cherries do not need to be thinned. Apples, pears, peaches and nectarines benefit from thinning. Plums and apricots may also be thinned if there is a heavy crop.”
