There's always something special about winning the 4x400-meter relay at the end of a track and field meet. A year ago, the Carson High girls celebrated when they won the 4x400 at the Fallon Elks Invitational, and on Saturday, the Carson boys took their turn when the quartet of Taylor Bradshaw, David McMasters, Brandon Buonacorsi and Nick Schlager won to cap off their day at the 37th annual Fallon invite at Churchill County High's Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.

Two words came to Colby Blueberg's mind when he spoke about the Carson High baseball team's dramatic double header sweep of Fallon on Saturday afternoon -- confidence and relaxed.
"A couple of things didn't go our way today, but we just stayed confident and relaxed," Blueberg said after contributing to game-winning seventh-inning rallies that lifted the Senators to 4-3 and 2-1 Sierra League victories at Ron McNutt Field. "We were able to keep calm and make the plays."

The Senators never let their foot off the gas pedal, tacking on five runs in the third inning and four more runs in the fourth on their way to a 15-1 victory to salvage a split of the twin-bill. Fallon took an early lead and held on for a 4-3 win in the opener.

It may not show up in the conference standings, but the Western Nevada College softball team showed some significant progress while losing both ends of a double header at Salt Lake Community College on Saturday.

Freshman Luke Maher hit a tie-breaking home run in the fourth inning and then came home on a Bruce McIntosh double in the bottom of the sixth to give the Carson High J.V. baseball team an 8-7 victory at home against Fallon in the second game of a Sierra League double header on Saturday afternoon.
Coupled with a 10-0 win in game one, the Senators completed a sweep of the double header and three-game series against Fallon. The Senators are now 5-1 in league play, 8-2 overall for the season.

Carson High seniors Katie McFarren and Richard Shroy both turned in personal record performances in their respective mile races during the Stanford Invitational track and field meet on Saturday morning.
