The Arlington Square ice rink will be back on the agenda for the Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday starting at 8:30 a.m.

The ice rink issue was postponed two weeks ago so the city staff could present the project to be funded by redevelopment funds instead of though the city's general fund.

Carsonsports.com reports how Carson High sophomore Emmy Heller switched roles as defensive goal keeper and delivered her first career goal in Carson's 9-0 "Senior Night" victory against Wooster. Six different players scored for Carson (12-0-2) in a win that clinched the Sierra League regular season championship.

Nearly a month of being hospitalized after a Sept. 21 horse riding accident in which he broke his pelvis, Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons returned to the mansion in Carson City over the weekend. Gibbons will be receiving several weeks of outpatient therapy, according to staff.

Under a proposed state budget plan, four of Nevada's museums operated by the Division of Museums and History would close, including the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City, said Peter Barton, acting administrator for the Division of Museums and History.

Other museums on the proposed state budget chopping block are the Nevada Historical Society in Reno, the state's oldest museum which opened in 1905; the Lost City Museum in Overton; and the Nevada Northern Railway Passenger and Freight Depot in East Ely.

Several negative mailers featuring Assembly candidate Pete Livermore were sent out recently to Carson City homes.

These ads were sponsored by the Nevada State Democratic Party, which hired an outside firm to produce the pieces. They claim Livermore got a "sweetheart deal" from the city when it purchased land he owned in order to widen Clearview Drive.

A Carson City man died Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding went off the side of the road and crashed about two miles east of Genoa, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Christian Joseph Coleman, 59, was driving east on State Route 206 (Genoa Lane) when, for unknown reasons, his motorcycle went off the right side of the roadway and crashed, said NHP Trooper Matt Kaplan. The accident happened at about 9:45 p.m.

Coleman was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson. He was transported to Carson Tahoe Hospital by Care Flight where he later died.

I’ve been a longtime fan of jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. This is, up until he moved beyond me into funk and rock, not exactly jazz to my way of thinking. I was still back with his record-selling “King of Blue” CD. Then I saw a listing in Netflix for “Miles Davis: Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue,” and I ordered it. Couldn’t be all bad, I figured.

The Tahoe Ridge Winery and Marketplace will host the next Carson City Chamber of Commerce mixer. The mixer begins at 5 p.m. with a wine tasting. The Carson City road construction report for the week of Oct. 18-24 continues to highlight the Roop Street widening project which is expected to be finished by the end of the year. The following impacts are expected this week:

— Roop Street is now open between William Street and Robinson Street.
— Roop Street will have intermittent lane restrictions from Robinson Street to Washington Street for striping.
— William Street will have intermittent lane closures at Roop Street on Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for westbound traffic.

Hundreds made their way to the Carson City Courthouse today, the first day for early voting in Nevada.

A record number of people could be voting in this election, said Alan Glover, Carson City Clerk-Recorder.

"I think it's going to be high again, just like 08. I see maybe a 90 percent turnout when this is done," Glover said. "I think the Senate race is cranking them out."
