Celebrating 150 years, Pony Express to Arrive in Carson City
The Pony Express will celebrate its 150th anniversary this year with a ride through Carson City on Wednesday, June 9, arriving at around 8:30 a.m. with a stop at Third and Curry streets. All are welcome to see the exchange of the mochila, with a special presentation event planned at the stop.
The National Pony Express Association will conduct its annual re-ride over the 1,966 mile route of the Pony Express National Historic Trail from California, through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas to Missouri, June 6 to 26, 2010.
The event commemorates the Pony Express of 1860-1861. The Central Overland and California Pikes Peak Express Company carried letters and telegrams for 19 months to prove the Central Route through Salt Lake passable year round. Each year the ride is re-created.
